Hi Lauren,
In my country dress code is generally rather liberal; although I attend a school which is unusual when it comes down to this aspect.
At my school it is obligatory to wear a tie and a white shirt (I know it's normal in some countries, but not here). We're not allowed to wear anything 'connected to subcultures', so it involves all kinds of piercings AND dying your hair. It doesn't say directly what colours are prohibited, though. I am personally very displeased with this rule since I like colours like blue or purple.
Anyways, if we're talking about dying your hair natural colours, I know some people at my school did it and haven't had any problems. That's why I guess only colourful hair is forbidden.
Are you sure there are no people who've 'legally' dyed their hair natural colours at your school? It's not as if you'd be looking extraordinary or anything amongst others as a blonde after all.

In my old school, only natural colours were allowed. And you weren't allowed to shave your head and have patterns in it either.

I think the idea with uniform and appearance in schools is that they want the community to see the school in a positive way. Also, it's like preparation for the world of work as you may have to wear a uniform and look presentable. That said, everyone makes the argument that having different coloured hair doesn't affect your learning, which I agree with :p

Throughout school, only natural colours were allowed at my school. You weren't allowed to bleach your hair or even go from brown to blonde or blonde to red. You also couldn't have coloured hair ties (only blue or black and they couldn't be wider than two and a half centimetres. We also weren't allowed to have our heads shaved or have any funky hairstyles.

But at my brother's school, they're allowed to dye their hair for spirit days providing it is gone before the next day. XD

yeah one of our teachers said when someone in class asked and i think she said you should come with the hair you were given
what one of you said about uniforms sounds right and because of the school logos shows we are part of something and theres none of the whole deciding what to wear thing - we have our clothes right here:)
