What would work?

Hai.

Okay, so for a while I've wanted an awesome colour in my hair. I don't want it dyed and I don't want highlights. I literally want the tips of my hair (maybe the bottom layer or something though) dyed an awesome colour. By that I mean like, blue or purple or something. NOT pink. Or green

So the problem is, my mum said she's not sure a) whether blue would go with my hair colour, and b) whether my hair would take the colouring properly anyway. So here's a picture of me and my natural hair colour (which it still is as I have virgin hair), and if any of you are awesome enough to know a little something about what would and wouldn't work, I'd be thankful for any info you have.



Sorry about the size of the picture! That's my hair (this was taken a while ago though, but it's just a bit longer and without a fringe temporarily), so what would you lovely people suggest?

I actually think purple would look pretty cool! I know you can get it professionally done, but you have to buy the hair dye somewhere else, because it's not a natural color.

Honestly, I think you should dye your hair whatever color you want. Don't worry about matching or stuff, just wear it with confidence. As far as how well your hair will take dye, it depends on a couple of things. Probably the two biggest factors in how your hair takes color is if it's been dyed before and what color it is. If you've never dyed your hair before, it'll most likely not take the dye quite as well because the more you dye your hair, the more porous it gets so it absorbs hair color better; however, you have lighter hair, which means the color will show up a lot better if you don't bleach it first. You'll get the best, most vibrant, and longest-lasting results if you bleach your hair first, but keep in mind that it weakens the hair a lot and home bleaching can be absolutely horrible for your hair.

I'm not going to bleach my hair. I want to keep the rest of it natural and literally just have the tips or a layer done. Thanks for the tip, though.
