Re: Bleaching - June 21st 2011, 03:46 PM

You can bleach over black hair, but either you need to do it in a few different processes over a few weeks or you need to do it in one and risk (or guarantee) absolutely frying your hair to the point of disrepair where it will either fall out or be unable to be repaired. So pretty much what I'm saying is you'll have to be patient with the bleaching process if you want to have hair to be able to dye. Pretty much, you're going to have to take it up a few shades every two weeks.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TSeicshGX8 (skip to like 2:10 because she talks a lot

If you're going to do it over the process of a few weeks, try getting semi-permanent dyes to put in your hair after you bleach it if you don't want orange-y hair.

If you're going to try to do it in one night, you can follow all the tips in the video.

"Love me for me, accept the fact I'm true, live like I want, fufill my dreams,
Dream of me, run out free, capture your words and never let them go."

I'll see you on the other side.

I would still take the process slow even if you are doing parts. Dying over black hair can be very very risky. I have done it and my hair was very damaged after and I had to get it cut. But you said you are going to Sally's most of the workers there have a back ground in hair so you can always ask them how to do it and what products to use.
Is your hair naturally black or died black?

If its died black then you really need to take the process slow with bleaching it even if its parts of your hair. Black hair dye is so harsh and even bleach doesn't take it out completely all the time. And if you really want the new dye to take and be the desired color you need to let the bleach do its work over time.

Re: Bleaching - June 23rd 2011, 09:34 PM

Thank goodness your waiting!
I would say wait for at least 2 months if you are going from dyed black to bleaching.
This combo really is the worst to work with because its basically going from one side of the specturm to the other and it can go horribly wrong.

After you bleach though make sure you take really good care of it. If you are going to Sally's to get the stuff. They have ion hair conditioner, they come in packets. Get a few packets and lather it in and keep it in for at least 5 minutes. Right after you bleach it and wash the bleach out. Then do it again before you dye your hair again at least the day before and then do it again after you dye it the other color. So get at least three packets.

If you don't wait for at least two months your hair will most likely fry and it will feel horrible. And look pretty bad and you won't be happy with the results.

Take it from a girl who loves to dye her hair. Ive done it and I actually had to get my hair cut a good four or five inches because it was so damaged and disgusting even with the use of conditioning it and taking care of it.

Re: Bleaching - June 24th 2011, 05:48 PM

I just thought of this.
I had dyed my hair black back around Janurary/Feb and then a few months later died it red, the red didn't take to the bottom and the black still showed up. Two nights ago I just wanted the color out of my hair because I was tired of having two different colors in my hair that way and just tired of the black to be honest.
So I went to Walmart and bought Color Opps and it worked amazingly and it is less harsh than bleach and my hair went back to my natural color and I haven't seen my natural color in 7 years because Ive dyed my hair over and over and my hair looks and feels great. So I think you should try that.

Re: Bleaching - June 25th 2011, 12:10 AM

It seems it's been pretty well answered but Ashley is right, you need to wait about 2 months to even put bleach in your hair if you go that route, and then wait 3weeks a month between bleaching, and it's still not healthy, it will take a lot and your hair will go through almost every colour imaginable in the spectrum before hitting light enough to die it. And you run a very serious risk of frying the absolute crap out of your hair having to bleach it so much, the over all process will take months, many months.
