How to stop red hair dye from fading - September 8th 2011, 07:21 PM

I dyed my hair bright red today and I love it <3 (it's this colour) Problem is red dye fades like a bitch >.> I don't really want to dye it constantly as, A) it's not very good for my hair and, B) I don't want to buy loads of hair dye every 2/3 weeks

What could I do to stop it from fading? Obviously I shouldn't wash it that much but that's gross

Ugh, I know the feeling; I wish I could give more proper tips instead of just empathising!! It only ever stays in my hair for like 3 days. I've heard you should wash in cold water and use a deep conditioner about once a week?? :/

I heard you should wash it in cold water too. Cold water doesn't bother me as much as most people so I'll try that

Also stay out of the sun as much as possible, that can cause hair to fade as well.
Pretty color by the way, I bet it looks great

Try Garnier Fructis color shield shampoo and conditioner. It worked wonders when I had red dye in my hair.

I may have to dye it again soon anyway. I just realised I missed quite a bit of my hair It's not insanely noticeable but it's annoying me.

Thanks guys

Re: How to stop red hair dye from fading - September 9th 2011, 10:50 AM

when i had my hair red, i brough a shampoo for red hair, and i mixxed a small amout in my hand with the dye before applying it in my hair, and also a oil that i put in my hair to stop all hair dyed from comming out so fast, i have had my hair dyed purple for just under a month, and i still havent redyed it yet, all i have been using is the oil.

this is the type of dye i use in my hair, it does not harm my hair at all, the only way i harm my hair is bleaching it and strightening it. if you want any information on the coulur some of the dyed turn out just message me or write on my profile.

I'd suggest buying a semi-permanent red dye like manic panic or stargazer and mixing it in with conditioner. The semi-dyes tend to have less harsh chemicals in so they won't damage your hair as much and you can even leave the dye-conditioner in for about half an hour to give it a top up.

Hmmm, strange that it's not lasting that long. I use L'Oreal Casting Creme in red and it's lasting me for up to 8 weeks. It fades a bit but it isn't noticable til 6 or 7 weeks. Other than suggesting a new dye, you can get those lock-in colour serums....can't remember the brand but most Boots/Tescos/Blaaahhh sell them.

Just a hop, skip and a jump.
