Splat Hair Color -
November 22nd 2011, 04:36 PM
So, next semester I'll be getting a job, and hopfully keeping it or keeping a job until I graduate college and go out to get a real job. So, since I can't have any more fun hair, I'm living it up this December. I've dyed my hair before, but I got a few questions...
Anyone used it before? The other day I picked up some of this ![]() I've only used Hot Topics Manic Panic stuff, and never had much luck. Then again, I've also never bleached before this. Which brings me too... I'm a bit scared of bleaching horror stories. Obviously I'll be redying it with this color stuff, but this will probably be my first and only time bleaching. I'll be using the bleach that comes with the Splat hair dye, but I also have some old White Out bleach. Probably a couple months old, is that any good? It's been opened, so probably not. I guess I'll just read the directions real well ![]() Do I bleach everything first, then go back for color? I'm thinking like a black base, do I dye everything black, then put on the cap and bleach streaks, then go back and do color? That's a lot of killing my hair ![]() So then, I'm not sure what to do with the color, maybe a mix between the two pictures there. I have bangs, and hair just shorter than my shoulders. It's really flat unless I flip the ends out, but when I do that you can see the layers really well. I'm just not so fond of bleaching AND using a straightener on my hair. I've got some black as well, I could either use that or not open it until I redye my hair for jobsEDIT: This is kinda what it looks like when I flip it out and a tad shorter, just. Imagine my face there ._. ![]() I'm usually much nicer to my hair than this. I figure if I'm going to go out hairwise, I'm going to go out with a bang. ![]() Take me seriously. I dare you. |

Hey Marissa,
Actually, the best way to do Black and Bleaching together (from my personal experience) is to separate the bleach strands with tin foil, and do the unfoiled hair black. Rinse them at the same time, and you should be good. As far as Splat hair colour goes, I have used it. Although it DOES work better than Manic Panic, I still wouldn't rank it as my favorite. But, considering the price (in comparison to other hair dyes, kits, etc.), it's definitely worth the shot. Besides, I'm sure you'll have better luck. My hair didn't bleach the best, but if yours bleaches better, the colour stays better. As somebody who has played with crazy colours (both on my own hair, and on other people's hair), I will also advise you to rinse out the bleach EXTREMELY well, or else your colour won't stick. But, anything else you'd like to ask, feel free to PM me. |

Honestly, I don't like Splat all that much. The colors never turned out how they were supposed to. My friend used the red one and it turned her hair pink. I used the purple one and it turned my hair magenta.
Don't be afraid of bleaching, its actually a simple process. Julz has a good idea of using tin foil. Putting conditioner on your hair will also keep dye from altering the color. ![]() Buddy|Live Help Operator|HelpLink Mentor|Social Networking Team Relationships&Dating Mod|Lifestyle Mod|Media&Entertainment Mod Performance Committee |

The hair turned out much lighter than I'd like, I don't think there's anything I can do but put more on or something tomorrow morning before showering to get a more bold color.

Marissa, I'd suggest picking up some Special Effects hair dye. Trust me, I've dyed my hair, and other people's hair, in funky colours. Personally, I've had the best experience with the SE colours over anything else.
Since they're an American company, you should be able to find the product with ease. |

I'm broke, so I just put some extra black where I thought it was too light. Easy fix, you can never go to dark
Thanks though, I hadn't read your post until just now.

Well, I know a site where you can order Special Effects for $10 a bottle, and each bottle lasts well, for awhile. It's in a resealable bottle, so if you only need a small amount of each colour, you can use it for a bunch of applications.
So if you end up deciding you want to do the bright colours again, that'd be my suggestion, from my experiences. |
