Scalp. - December 11th 2011, 01:49 PM

So I am having some troubles with my scalp, it's really dry and has like scabs on it ~ so GROSS. I had it dyed so it's probably a because of that but how can I get rid of it? It feels really horrible and itchy.

Dying your hair should not be cutting your scalp which would result in scabs. If it is dry, do you find yourself itching it a lot? Your fingernails could be cutting your scalp which can cause scars.
My advice is to get a good shampoo and conditioner that is made for moisture (Dove is a good brand for this) and try not to scratch your scalp anymore. They will go away on their own, and the moisture from the shampoo and conditioner will help to prevent dryness.

Hair dying has nothing to do with scabbing. Now when you dyed your hair and it felt really uncomfortable and it burned, that did have something to do with it. Because you had open wounds basically getting chemicals put on them.

Like said above get some really good shampoo and conditioner. If you have dandriff you can try head and shoulders, also getting T gel would be a good idea. If you head is not itchy and its not due to that you may want to see your doctor.
I know it may be gross but don't freak out too much, its covered by your hair and people won't be able to see it. Come to think of it, it could be due to cold weather.

When my scalp was like that, I used Head & Shoulders shampoo & conditioner. Works & it's cheap.

Just something to throw out, a lot of people think they have dandruff or something like it when they really have a dry scalp. Dandruff shampoos can help initially, but may worsen the problem eventually. What I'd suggest is going to a store that sells natural things and get a shampoo with something like Neem in it-- or at least something for dry scalp. Head & Shoulders has a bunch of junk in it that you don't want if you have a dry scalp. Right now, I'm using a shampoo that's by Alaffia and it's wonderful. I think it's called 'Scalp Recvery' or something and has Neem and shea in it.

I have eczema on my scalp, so I kinda know what you're going through.
Try using T-Gel it works wonders with my scalp.

I have a lot of problem with my scalp, dandruff and all. So firstly I'd say DO NOT use shampoos like heads and shoulders for a very long time. They can damage your hair a lot as the chemicals are very strong. I'd recommend ask a doctor about a shampoo which is mild so that it doesn't cause any damage and at the same time helps you with the scabs.
And because you said your scalp is dry, I am going to tell you what we do in India for it, it may sound weird but you can apply Coconut oil on your scalp. Or olive oil in winters as the coconut oil freezes whenever it gets cold. Apply it and give yourself a nice massage, keep it overnight and wash in the morning like you normally do with a shampoo.
For dandruff (which actually is nothing but dry skin), yoghurt works too. Apply it to your scalp, leave it for 20-30 minutes, rinse. You hair becomes oily. Wash after keeping it overnight. I don't know if it will work for scabs.
They are very effective. Millions of people in India do it.
I hope this helps.

Hi there! I have the exact same problem but it's completely cleared up!
I used to wash my hair in the bath which mean that the shampoo and conditioner was not fully washing out so I now wash it over the shower meaning my hair gets cleaned 100%.
As people have said previously Head and Shoulders isn't a good choice when dealing with a dry scalp and can damage the hair.
I got a 'boots own' shampoo for dandruff, irritated or dry scalp. and it works wonders

Oh, and you only use the T-Gel every other day and use regular shampoo the others.

Also, cholesterol can help too, so can olive oil so I've heard.
