I'm a little confused, because a perm is a chemical process, not something done with a brush

Yes. A perm is a chemical process done with a professional hairstylist. Not something done with a brush; they have brushes made specific for those whose hair has had a perm, but that's the only reason they have them...is it care for the hair that has been chemically done for a perm.

What you had was micro-braids, which isn't the same thing as a perm. A perm makes your hair curly in the process, while micro-braids are just braids. They are completely opposite terms. I'd take the advice given to you in the other thread you've made about the micro-braids and what it's done to your.

I also think you should go to a professional hair stylist to remove the tangles. If nothing seems to be working that you're doing at home, a hair stylist will be able to remove those tangles in no time, and give you a professional perm if that's what you're looking for.
