question about tattoo dye

I'm highly allergic to red dye which is in foods (I go almost in to an anapalatic shock (sp?)) every time I injest something with it in it. Is the dye the same kind and would it end up being fatal?

Re: question about tattoo dye

Red tattoo dye is known to carry the highest risk of allergic reactions amongst all dyes. In some cases, depending on the choice of ink at a particular tattoo shop certain dyes present in foods may be present in the ink; for example Red Dye #40 has been used in certain ink brands. It's quite possible you could have an allergic reaction, although since it is a different form of absorbtion you would probably experience the general rash and irritation. To be safe though, it would probably be best to speak with your preferred tattoo shop as well as your doctor.

The problem would be that Red Dye #40 may be in other ink colors, as well.

You'll have to discuss with your tattoo artist, in detail, which inks contain that dye. I'd also, as suggested, talk with your doctor.

Re: question about tattoo dye

I emailed a local tattoo artist, but sure I'll have to ask the doctor about that. Since I'm going monday about my red dye allergies to get myself an epi-pen so it sure will be a topic i bring up.
