I Don't Get It! - August 20th 2010, 08:44 PM

I don't get it my dad would let me start dating at 15 and he doesn't how old the guy is, he knows i liked someone who was 20 at age 15, but he's against getting my nose pierced, OKAY i can see a tattoo regardless of size or preperation have to wait until 17 or 18 my mom would let me get a nose piercing at 16 no problem...but my dad says okay...but im still against it...like wtf it makes me feel fucking trashy when he says he's against everything...he's said in the past he would like if i would wear some more femine clothes and stuff he doesn't like hair out of the normal so short boyish hair or pixie cuts and crazy colors he doesn't care for but he tries to not say any about my hair cause we both no i can change that whenever i damn well want its not permanent, he doesn't like piercings, he doesn't like tattoos but yet he's the one who almost started dating a 23 year old woman and my half sister is 24 thats disgusting! and he's like 38 i think...like seriously he's so so...fuck get with the times dad i know how many teens say that to their parents but what the fuck i'd be more happy if i wasn't aloud to date till im 18 and i could get a face piercing or small tattoo somewhere i can hide at 16 i know its there for life but im not stupid and i put alot of thought into this looking at the risks and hazards costs...qaulity of diff artists like god damn if its with you for life who cares about two more years to that span why is tattoos and pierceings so bad to some people sure he's somewhat into religion but he's not all that into god and following the bible fuck i feel like he thinks im going to turn into a skank

Is he actually stopping you or if he just saying he doesn't like the idea? If you're old enough to go on your own, then go on your own and have it done. Who cares if he likes it or not? I'd be worried if your father liked everything you did or wore. Children are meant to break free of the bonds their parents put on them a little bit at least, otherwise each generation would be an exact copy f the last generation and the species never evolves that way.

Same question as Hannah asked. Is he saying you cannot get it? Because if he's just expressing he's against it, or doesn't like it, don't let it get to you.

Seriously, I'm 22 years old, and my dad STILL complains about my nose piercing, about all my earrings, complains when I dye my hair black, doesn't like my outfits (especially the really Gothy stuff), etc.

Honestly, I think it's just the parental thing to do. Parents, especially dads, are bound to be critical, and/or protective. Its just how they are, but eventually, he'll get used to it. My dad occasionally still says something, even though I've had my nose pierced for almost 2 years, my ears pierced for awhile, been dressing Goth since I was about 14-15, and have dyed my hair black (or even black with purple streaks) on and off since I was about 16-17.

Shrug it off, honestly. If he's just being critical, its a typical adult thing to do.

he's not actually stopping me from anything but a tattoo but my mom agrees to wait until im 18 then she's all for it, my dad still won't approve by then but too bad for him...im not sure but i think here in winnipeg i need a parent or legal gaurdian to be with me to get my nosed pierced since im only 15 even though i want to get with done while im with my sister whos 24 and VERY responsible...he'll let me get my nose pierced but he doesn't like it so he will not be there while i get it done and i know this is what he'll say for a fact and my mom live in a different province so thats out of the question

Jamie, is it 16 there? Some provinces it's 14, some are 16. And as far as tattoos, you legally HAVE to wait until you're 18, anyways. Before that, they legally cannot tattoo you, at least not here.
