What does it feel like? -
September 14th 2010, 02:31 AM
The typical tattoo question. Honestly, what did getting your tattoo feel like? Painful stabs, light pinches? I'm planning on getting one just above my right shoulder blade on my back, and am curious as to what the sensation is like. Is there anything that can ease the pain for you? Take an ibproufen beforehand or something?

Its like... If someone was poking you rapidly with a needle. Yeah, it hurts at first, but then it kind of numbs and you adjust.
I don't think you can take ANYTHING beforehand, since it affects your bloodstream. |

It all depends on your pain tolerance and the location. Back is a little more painful location to get a tattoo. It feels like painful pinches but like Julz said, after a certain amount of time its more like annoying poke because your numb and just want it to be over with. It goes from painful to annoying.
I have four tattoos and it really all depends on the location. The one on my wrist wasn't painful at all until it got to the vein area but before it got there it was just annoying pokes from the start. The same with my left ankle. Now my back it was extremely painful at first then after awhile I was like omg its so annoying. My right ankle hurt all the way through because my right side is hyper sensitive. Always remember to put your happiness first.

I got a tattooist to put a needle in me without colour so i knew what it felt like and i have to be honest, but i found it to be quite pleasant
![]() At first it stung a little, but then it went quite numb and was just tingly But i have a really good pain tolerance. You could punch my in the face and it wouldn't hurt :P x How come dumb stuff seems so smart while you're doing it?
Good friends get drunk with you. Best friends hold your hair back when you've had a bit too much to drink! There's no such thing as good girls gone wrong, only bad girls found out. I've learned... that maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you've had and what you've learned from them and less to do with how many birthdays you've celebrated. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I got mine done on the inside of my right hip. The outlining was painful at times, like a digging/deep scratching feeling. Though at times it really didn't hurt at all. When they did the coloring, it felt like they were rubbing my skin with sandpaper.

I have one above my right shoulder blade and to me it felt like being scratched by a cat over and over again. It did kinda numb after a while. Then again I don't have a very high pain tolerance when it comes to things like that.

I have both my shoulders done and honestly I just could feel vibrations with a little bit of pain. I wouldn't call it pain but more irratating at first but after the first minute or so I found it relaxing. You know when you get stung by a bee the initial pinch? That is what it felt like to me, and at one point where it goes over my shoulder blade I got goose bumps not because it hurt so much but the sensation is weird. Now I have my ribs/side/hip area done sort of a large piece (it took 4 hours compared to my 1.5 hours on one shoulder and 3 on the other) and that was doable in one sitting but it felt at one point on my side hip portion like someone was stabbing me with a knife and twisting it. That effing didn't feel the greatest. But in all honesty shoulders are supposed to be one of the least painful areas. They are easily covered up or uncovered to show it off. I thought it was rather painless but i got bored after a bit. Make sure you eat before hand a good hour or two and bring water and candy with you just in case you feel light headed and a friend for support. Any other questions feel free to pm me

The unfortunate part of shoulder tattoos are that they're not easily covered up if you're getting married. Most wedding dresses don't cover that part of your back, and my sister's tattoo looked really bad on her wedding day

I got mine near my hip here... it's a little pot belly fairy I designed.
It hurt, but not so much so that it's not tolerable. I think the worst for me was the coloring. Most people say it's the outline that is the worst for them, but it was the fact that they kept going over the same open wound. =/ But it was a cool experience. I worked there, so I got it for free. Can't wait for more! Colours De Moi |

i've recently got one on the inside of my wrist. it hurt alot. i passed out actually. but i hadent eaten anything awhile before hand. and i have a pretty low pain tolenernce as well. it was just something pretty small though. it to me it kinda felt like falling on asphalt, like the burning scrape feeling. but in a really small area. one of my friends is really big into tattoos, like hes got a sleve, one on both feet, both his calfs are pretty much covered, and a number of other things. oh well. anyway my point n sayin all that is, he has a lower pain tolerance than i do, if your getting something of a good size after about five minutes it gets kinda numb and the endorphans kick in and its not that bad. and i know for a fact he's went in after taking pain killer a couple times with no issues at all, now rather its recommended or not, not so sure.
