Cartilage piecing? - October 14th 2010, 02:36 AM

I was wondering, hoe bad do cartilage piercings hurt to get? I've heard that they are incredibly painful and can get nasty infections...

Hey,

I have my cartilage pierced and it didn't hurt to get it pierced. It has hurt some to heal but that is because I got it pierced with a gun. Go to a professional tatoo/piercing parlor and get it done there. Follow their advice for cleaning it and you shouldn't have to worry about infections.

Take care,
Kitty

P.s. I moved your thread to Tattoos and Piercings because it fits better there.

I would highly suggest getting it pierced with a needle. Getting it done with a gun can actually shatter your cartilage.

You should not allow them to do it with a gun, it should only be done with a needle. And as for the pain factor, it depends on your pain tolerance. It might hurt a lot, or it might hurt a little. It just depends on your body.

As for infections, if you take care of it well and wash it daily, you should be free from infections.

Take care.

I got my cartlidge done with a gun back in december09. i just ended up letting it close up like a month or two ago, cause it was painfull. It didnt hurt at all to get i pierced, i hardly felt it, but the healing process for me was hell. i personally wish i would have gotten it done with a needle, as that seems to not totally ruin your cartlidge like the gun did for me. i now have bumps all over my left ear cause of it.

if you want to get it done, go to a professional and no gun!

take care (:

I have three piercings in my cartilage, one on my left ear in the top corner and two on my right ear. I got them all done with a gun and nothing bad happened to them, the cartilage didn't shatter and it didn't get infected. I asked my piercer beforehand about the getting it done with a needle but decided against it. It took a month or so to heal up but it wasn't bad at all. I do realise it might be different for other people but that's just my experience

Its illegal for the place i got it done at - to do it with a gun. I just figured that out. The stone/stud went through my ear now and is embedded, and i have an infection now probably. I would suggest you do NOT get it done with a gun. The piercer i talked to told me it ruins the cartilage tissue in your ear and cases swelling and infection!

Good luck.

I got mine done today and it did not hurt.

The guy put the needle through which didn't hurt but the noise it made at it went through the cartilage grossed me out, it was a proper popping noise...
Then he put the stud on the end of the needle and pulled it back through and it was done. This part hurt quite a lot more but only for a split second.

Afterwards my ear throbbed for a few hours and was purple then red but it is fine now. I pretty much think sleeping on it is going to hurt but I will get back to you on that one.

A gun can shatter the cartilage and cause it to collapse.

Here is a link to an article about gun vs needle: http://www.teenhelp.org/forums/f90-f...ide-piercings/

and here is one about cartilage piercings: http://www.teenhelp.org/forums/f90-f...age-piercings/

These links both have info about aftercare: http://www.design4lifetattoo.co.uk/#piercing
