Piercing size - November 2nd 2010, 06:08 PM

I got my cartilatge pierced 3 weeks ago and I am not planning on changing it yet as it isn't fully healed but I am looking at rings to put in it.

When I look there is a variety of sizes and I was just wondering how I know what size to get, I got it pierced with a needle and it currently has a bar in there like this one...

I don't want to buy ones that don't fit or buy any too big and cause problems. I also really don't feel like going back to wear I got pierced to ask but if I have to I will...

Were you told what size it was when you got it pierced, 1.2? 1.6? I'd advice going back to the piercer and they should be able to measure it with a pair of calipers and advice what ring would fit best.

So here i am, alive at last

Nope, they didn't mention it and I forgot to ask...

The sell some nice rings there so I might go there to buy one and ask then, they use the same size for all cartilage piercings so they will most likely just know which one it is.

This is my first piercing other than lobes and to be honest I didn't even know there were sizes except for plugs...

It will probably be a 1.2 or a 1.6 so I would ask to check.

Lobes are generally a 1 or 1.2 though

Yeah, my cartilage one is definitely bigger than my lobes, that's what made me question it because after looking at it I don't think I can just put a normal ear ring in there...

Just when you go to buy more jewellery, ask your pierer what size your current one is. Then you can buy some the same.

It seems your body jewelry in the UK is in millimeters, here we use Gauges.

So, from what I've seen of cartilage piercings, they're usually a 1.63 (aka 14 gauge). Its highly unlikely that its different, I've never even seen barbells in a different size.

But definitely, ask your piercer which size they pierced with. I'm 99% sure that it'd be the 1.6, though.

Its more than likely a 1.2 if it was done with a needle, which is 16g.
To be sure ask your piercer, you dont have to go in, just give them a call

That looks like 14g to me but of course, I can't be sure. I recommend that you head to your piercer and ask him.
