Infected lobes - November 8th 2010, 01:10 PM

So, my earlobe piercings (one per ear) are infected. I've been using the sea salt solution my piercer recommended and he also said epsom salts so I've got that going on too. These helped when my helix was infected many years ago, but they don't seem to be doing anything now and it's been a couple weeks. Strange thing is I think the piercings are healed and the infection is a little lower, if that makes any sense. Now, I currently can't go to the doctor and the infection's really not all that bad, just kinda annoying.... But, if any of you have at home remedies that have worked for you I'd love to hear them!

Any infection is bad a needs treatment. I know you're trying all the solutions, and that hasn't worked, so maybe there's more to it? Are you sure you're not allergic to the jewellery? Has the infection spread? I think it's wise that you do see a doctor just to make sure everything is okay and your ear doesn't fall off!

Let us know how it goes. Take care.

I'd suggest Hydrogen Peroxide. Piercers try to AVOID unnatural solutions, but if the sea salts fail, its always worth a try. Just dab some on, and it'll fizz. The fizz means it's tackling the infection.

If you're sure you're not allergic to the jewellery, keep your studs in. Clean it twice a day and just avoid touching too much!!

Yeah, I'm not allergic to the jewelry. I have a few other piercings and used the same type in those. I know infections are bad, but it's no worse than ones I've had before so I doubt my ears will fall off if I let it go a while longer. I think I'm just confused because I usually only get cartilage piercings, not ones on fleshy parts. Do areas like earlobes take longer to clear up? I don't know, I guess my body just doesn't like foreign metal objects being rammed through it... who knew

I'll keep cleaning it, try the peroxide and go to the doctor if it gets worse. Thanks everyone!

No lobe piercings actually take less time to heal than cartilage as far as I know & have experienced. You could try some antiseptic like TCP on it?

As of right now, hydrogen peroxide would definitely be best.

Get some Savlon spray, just helps to keep it clean.
