Last Saturday I got my cartilage pierced and the first few days it was fine, it didn't even hurt. But I slept on in once or twice and played with it (probably with unclean hands) and now its red and puffy and when I was cleaning it today a little puss came out. I started cleaning it with peroxide today hoping it would help. Is this normal for a cartilage piercing (I've never had a piercing before this) It doesn't hurt that bad only when I bump into it.

If there's pus, inflammation, and redness, it's infected. But if you can get it under control on your own, then you'll be fine.

If the pus coming out is clear and doesn't smell they it will just be your body sending white blood cells to the piercing to heal it.
If it is yellow or brown or smells bad then it is a sign of infection. Salt water is the best thing to clean a cartilage. I got mine done 3 weeks ago now. |

I've had my cartiliage pierced four times.
For some reason with my piercings. They got infected when i would clean them. So I found it best to just leave them alone and let them heal on their own... But that's just me. When they did get infected it was because of a bad metal in the earring I had in. So it did have those issues. Once again I just cleaned out and around it with some rubbing alcohol and then put a better earring in and left it. Hydrogen proxide is not recommended but if you want you could try that. Sea salt is best. So try rinsing it out with that. I know sleeping is hard on them. Mine still occasionally hurt. Just try to sleep on your other side as much as possible. The tossing and turning can wiggle your earring around some and can cause irritation. Just do your best to keep it clean and leave it alone lol. Pansexual. Problematically Pierced. Disturbed and Depressed. And a Lost Realist. Got a question? I might just have an answer. Feel free to PM me.  |

Salt water is a really great idea.
 Also, switching it to a hoop can help speed up healing.

Cartilage piercings get infected very easily as the dirt from your hair gets in the way. Keep washing it with salt water and try and tie your hair up or pin it away from the piercing. Mine was like what you said at one point, cause it got burst by a football, but eventually it did heal [:
