Talk to me about nose peircings(questions on healing time, etc, etc) - November 13th 2010, 04:18 AM

So, while the extent of my body-modification stops at a second ear lobe piercing, I'm thinking I'd like to get just a small stud in my nose. Nothing fancy.

My question is, how long is healing time typically? After my spring semester is over I'm taking a job that does not allow me to have it in(company dress code policy ), and come January unless I get hired at a place that does not mind it, I'll have to take it out for job interviews at the very least. I don't want it to close up right away, you know?

Even though this is a pretty simple and straightforward thing I'm curious about some other stuff :

How easily does this get infected(provided it's properly cleaned and maintained)
pain-factor?
price-factor? (approximate, I know it varies)
Drawbacks? This might sound silly, but what happens when you get congested or have a runny nose? I go to school in Boston where you walk everywhere and the winters are coooold, so it's a given I'm going to get some pretty nasty colds.

How do they go about piercing the nose, not with a piercing-gun, right? I don't have any metal allergies that I know of, but should I avoid sterling silver and go platinum, or does it really matter?

if you plan on taking it out for more than just replacing it then id advise you not to get it because they close up real fast mine closed up over a 3 hour period. But you don't need to take them out for job interviews i actually got this packet from my college about job interviews and it said to NOT hide your tattoos or take out piercings on purpose unless they ask. but if you still want to get it done after knowing this or still thinking about it let me know and i can list the rest because i got mine redone

As the smoke clears
I awaken, and untangle you from me
Would it make you, feel better to watch me while I bleed?
All my windows, still are broken
But I'm standing on my feet

I would say don't take it out for at least three months. If you take it out shortly after you've had it pierced the hole will heal up and you'll have no more nose stud.

They can get infected easily because of...well. Snot, and stuff.

I have a friend who says it didn't hurt at all, while others say it stung like hell. Nose piercings are fairly cheap; £8 for a tacky hair salon piercing and maybe £15 for something more professional.

It gets infected and I expect it's rather horrible. I'm planning on getting my nose pierced when I'm as sure as I can be that I won't get hayfever or flu. What a nightmare...

I don't know about what sort of metal, but I would definitely recommend getting it done with a needle rather than a gun. A gun will shoot a blunt stud through your nose and it tears the skin and is more likely to scar or get infected. A needle, though it looks very sharp and scary, will probably cause you less pain and less trouble in the long run.

Thanks for the input guys =]

I went through with it about two hours ago haha, my friend reccomended a tattoo place and went with me. It was 40 dollars including the tip and without any after-care supplies(I already had a ton leftover from my ear piercings). They pierced it with a needle, and it definitely did hurt and it bled for about a minute afterwards - but it was absolutely bearable. The worst part was that it made me tear up because of the proximity to my sinuses haha. Now two hours later there's no redness, swelling, no re-occuring bleeding and it feels like it's not even there. I'm super happy with it =]

I'm glad that your question got answered. Enjoy your nose piercing. I am going to close this now.
