Cartilage piercing - December 25th 2010, 10:35 PM

Okay, so I stretched my cartilage piercing to 18 and it's hurting quite a bit. It only hurts when it gets touched.
It's not infected. It just hurts a lot. How long will it hurt for and what can I do to minimize the pain?

It's just sore for the time being because you stretched the cartilage a little. Take some ibuprofen in the mean time to help with the pain and keep it clean. Ibuprofen or Tylenol are about the only things you could do for pain, or ice to numb it for a while, but ibuprofen would be your best bet. It should feel better in a couple days.

Exactly hat was said above^^

Ice, tylenol. Those are good things to use. If the pain continues, and doesn't subside within the next few days, I would say go to the doctor. If it gets really red, you are probably getting the start of an infection.

Re: Cartilage piercing - January 3rd 2011, 05:57 AM

It still hurts.
It's not red or swollen, but it hurts when I touch it.
There isn't any pus or anything like that. It simply hurts. It doesn't really hurt when I take the barbell out. I am so confused as to what could be wrong with my piercing.

It has gotten hit recently. But I would it would have healed from getting hit.

What is the piercing made of?
Is it possible you could be allergic to it?

You have a barbell in your cartilage? Is it an industrial piercing? I'm a little confused, sorry

It will be sore for a while. Stretching cartilage is painful and will be sore. If it's not red and there isn't any pus I wouldn't worry. It's not infected. Since it's gotten bumped recently, that will make it worse too. Just give it time and it'll heal. It could also be the jewelry like said above. If it doesn't hurt when you take it out, I'd suggest trying a different metal similar to the one you had in your ear before you went up.

I have a barbell in my cartilage too. It is what was put in when I got it done. It is a small one like you would put in a lip.

Looks like this but mine is higher up at the top of my ear

That's very odd.. I've never seen anything like that (outside of an industrial or a conch piercing) lol.

Depending on the jewelry that's in your ear, it might be getting pulled on when you're sleeping, and that will make it hurt for a longer period of time. Just make sure you keep it clean, try to not sleep on it, and tylenol or advil should help with the pain - just don't take much, and don't take it too often.

Having a barbell in a new cartilage piercing is pretty normal over here when it is done with a needle you either get a barbell or a ring. I didn't get a choice though.

It is surgical steel or something like that. It is the same thing I use for my other ear piercings and they have never been bothered. I know i'm not allergic to it.

No. It's a regular cartilage piercing, but I have a small barbell that I wear in it.

It hurts a bit, but not as much. I switched it to a different barbell today, but I'm not sure where I would get a different metal.

I got it pierced with a gun so it originally had a stud.
I was wondering if it was getting pulled because my hair has gotten caught in it some.
