I took out my gauges -
June 21st 2011, 05:57 PM
I started gauging my ears about 4 or 5 months ago. I only got to an 8. But I took them out because I don't think I was doing it the right way. And I could never get my last plug into my right ear. So I just took them out. I want to start gauging them later like in a few months maybe. But I would love some tips and the right advice on how to do it.
And what products to use like the tapers and what kind of tapers. Like the straight taper or the curved tapers. How long should I keep the taper in in until I put the plug in and when I should go to the next size. Always remember to put your happiness first.

Just keep your 8g plugs in for now and let your ears rest for a while. You should always wait at least a month between stretches. When you get to larger sizes like 00g and bigger, you have to wait longer than a month. At least 2.
I love spiral tapers personally, but I've used plenty of straight tapers and curved tapers. You never want to keep the taper in. If it's at the next size, put the plug in. Also, you don't want to leave acrylic plugs in after a stretch unless your ears are ok. Always use stainless steel or glass plugs or tunnels right after a stretch. I know I posted this in the other thread about stretching but once you get into bigger sizes like around 1/2" you don't want to use tapers any more since the gaps between sizes are bigger which could cause blowouts or tears easier. That's when you want to start using bondage tape and wrap it around the plug to increase sizes until you get to the next size. Usually wrapping about twice around the plug. After each size increase, let it sit about 3 weeks before wrapping again.

How long though do you keep the taper in before the plug?

As soon as it's at the new size you take the taper out and put the plug in. Easiest way to do that is to line up the plug and the biggest part of the taper. You push the taper out with the plug, thus putting the plug in your ear. It's the easiest way to go from taper to plug after a fresh stretch.
