Help and Advice wanted on Snake Bits / Lip piercings -
January 6th 2012, 01:02 PM
I thinking of having snake bites but wanna research and get all the right info before getting them done. this way the chances of regretting it is small
![]() 1. Is it painful getting them done (Bare in mine Ive had belly, ears, helix and tongue pierced) 2. Do they swell up alot once done ? 3. Whats the healing period and after care like ? 4. How long do they last (on average) 5. What better to get them pierced with (Bar or Ring) ? 6. Once removed and healed - do they leave nasty scars that can be seen ? Thanks Charlie x |

1. Everyone's pain tolerance is different, so what might hurt for me might not hurt for you and vice versa. I had no problem when I got my tongue pierced, but my belly button hurt like Hell.
2. Again, this depends. When my sister got her tongue pierced, her entire tongue swelled for a day or two before finally coming down. Only a part of my tongue swelled, and lasted for only about a day. 3. The healing process can take anywhere between 6-10 weeks. It could happen before then or even after then as well. This is just a generally. Here is a link for lip piercing after care: http://bodypiercing.ygoy.com/aftercare-of-lip-piercing/ Also, the piercer may tell you different ways of taking care of it, so make sure you listen to their instructions well. 4. If taken care of properly, and you have no allergies to jewelry, they'll last forever. 5. The piercer will most likely have you get a ring first, and once the piercing is healed and you can change the jewelry, you could go to a bar. With a ring, you'll have a higher chance of the piercing being successful, while with a bar, there might be a chance your body will reject it. 6. As do most openings in your body, they'll most likely leave scars. My sister had her belly button pierced, and you could see a faint scar. Now that she's pregnant and has since taken hers out (years before), you can see where the piercing actually was since it's stretched out. So, you'll most likely experience some kind of scarring. |

I have a lip stud, so this is my experience
1. Is it painful getting them done (Bare in mine Ive had belly, ears, helix and tongue pierced) For me, no. If none of those hurt, you'll be fine. 2. Do they swell up alot once done ? Yes, but it's not terribly uncomfortable. I had to play an instrument afterwards, clarinet to be exact, and that wasn't too bad. It really doesn't swell terribly if you take care of them. 3. Whats the healing period and after care like ? Wash with antibacterial or microbacterial soap, and use warm salt water on it. Do not take it out. Do NOT NOT NOT drink alcohol during the third three months, and NOT using mouth wash with alcohol. Some piercers tell you to do alcohol, no. It kills the skin that is trying to grow. And really don't drink beer, the yeast is bad for it. Healing process is about three months until you can take it out, and you should avoid alcohol during that time. 4. How long do they last (on average) You can keep them in til however you want. HOWEVER, this is where I'm going to give my only warning for you: They do damage your gums, no matter which type you get. You probably don't want it in for 20 years, it will wear on them a lot. 5. What better to get them pierced with (Bar or Ring) ? Actually, to my knowledge, it may be the opposite, but it depends on the piercer. I got a bar, it turned out fine. The good news is that if you get a bar, you can put a ring in later easier. If you get a ring, it heals ringular, so it's harder to put a bar in later. But in the end, both have a high acceptance rate. 6. Once removed and healed - do they leave nasty scars that can be seen ? Yes, they leave scars, but they're not nasty. Because of its location, it's very hard to notice it. It's hidden by the lip. And also, it could easily be seen as an acne scar. So no, they don't leave terrible scars. |
