Ways to be happy! :) - November 15th 2015, 05:01 PM

Lately I've been looking for new ways to make myself happy because I'm trying to get over my depression. One way I learned is to smile for two minutes. It's a scientific proven way to make you happy. Of course it wears off after a while. But my point is this: does anyone have any suggestions on getting over a bad day or to brighten your day. I don't want to let one bad thing get in the way of my good day. Thanks!

You seem to be very committed in overcoming your depression. You should be proud of yourself!

Smiling can certainly help and I recommend it, but don't forget to have healthy emotional outlets so you don't end up bottling everything up. I am really glad you don't want to let the bad ruin your good days.
  • Do a hobby you enjoy.
  • Dance to your favorite song(s).
  • Rearrange and decorate your room.
  • Search cheesy jokes and have a laugh with family/friends.
  • Regularly leave birdseed outside and watch what birds visit.
  • If possible, visit the pet store. Animals can cheer people up easily.
  • Keep fresh, colorful flowers around the house and/or in your room.
  • Spend time bonding/playing with a pet. They can be very therapeutic!
  • Compliment your mom or your friends. Causing smiles can cause smiles of your own.
  • Going for a walk can clear your thoughts a bit. The fresh air and sunlight may improve your mood.
  • Write inspirational/motivational quotes and leave them anonymously in public places. You never know who may need those kind words.

Doing what brightens your day and appreciating the simple things can help a lot, but spreading kindness and cheering others up can actually cheer you up. So try to find a balance! I hope these ideas help and that you feel better soon. Don't let the negativity ruin your good days. Stay strong and hold on.

Hey! I've been through the same thing and still am going through it, I know how you feel.

The best way to get over it is to do something you love, buy a drone that's what I did haha it really helps. But in all seriousness do things you love to do, get to know some people make new friends and just do your best to not think about what is making you depressed. Think positively.

Oh one more thing, don't listen to any music, going back and listening to those songs after a few months can really bring back the depression. It may sound stupid but it really helps trust me.
