2017 accomplishments. - November 23rd 2017, 01:39 PM

I know there has been a thread about 2017 but I didnít get a chance to look at it. I figured it would be cool to have a place for all of us to discuss the positive things we accomplished this year. Iím going to go first.

I started college after being away from a brick and mortar school for five years. I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and Iíve made some friends, and I am involved in a club that has helped me to make friends. I started volunteering at a facility near my home and to do that as well as start school I had to start driving by myself. I started taking medications and have made some more progress towards my recovery.

As for some stuff that isnít all that serious, I got into baking and sewing and have made progress with both this year.

Anything you hope to do by the end of 2017?

I hope to maybe pick up beading and art again. I would like to begin learning how to drive a stick.

I was in an accident and it made my fear of driving develop again so I hope to get over that before next semester starts with all that night driving.

Your turn!

Re: 2017 accomplishments. - November 23rd 2017, 02:06 PM

I finally started therapy and eventually found a good therapist. Also started medication and the difference is night and day.

Got a job that I like as much as anyone can like retail and my managers and co-workers are amazing.

Wrestled with rabbit holes and existential crises which means I finally started making peace with the grad school nightmare and making decisions about my relationships with toxic people.

Started writing and getting it published.

Less serious: I got back into online puzzles and discovered addoku (sudoku with math) which I now love.

Anything else you want to do? Not by this year, but I want to try vegetarianism before I turn 30 in May. I've been considering it for like 8 years, and haven't made the leap yet.

Cool thread!
I changed therapists in around early February and made progress wit gething treatment. I tried EMDR. I started an iop and joined a clubhouse for mental health. In the iop i statted DBT skills and other things.
I participated in the painting of a mural as my summer job and I'm really proud of it! I started doing Help link associate and I know I'm not nearly as active on the volunteer front I want to get back into it.

I did some independent related things. Like I traveled to a different state on my own via the amtrak though I was picked up at the station. I rode the NJ transit and LIRR for the very first time and independently as well.
I also went to the airport and had to ride the air train alone which is kind of scary.
I have done better with going to doctors and taking prescribed medications.

I've worked on creative things and Journaling. Ive done a lot of walking with friends which I realized can be really fun. I want to get back into gardening and connecting with nature.
I also got back into yoga. I've completed some peer specialist training courses and got my mental health first aid certificate.

I still have a lot to work on but I believe I've came a long way.

Re: 2017 accomplishments. - November 23rd 2017, 04:25 PM

I've started applying for jobs and I've got accepted to take tests with one company. It's definitely a good first step.
I also got in with vocational rehabilitation and they are working to help me find a job that isn't retail since I told them I wouldn't be able to do that with my anxiety.

Less serious: I've read about 105 books and 95 graphic novels and Manga. I exceeded the goal I set this year (52) and then I exceeded the other goal I set (150).

I don't have much else I want to accomplish this year.

Next year I'd love to have a job and maybe be closer to moving out and marrying my boyfriend?

Re: 2017 accomplishments. - November 23rd 2017, 11:15 PM

My biggest accomplishment this year has been passing my first year of university. Well, it's my only accomplishment really. Unless you count all those successful assignment submissions.

I hope to get good grades in my assignments though I'm not expecting much, my essays were probably poor despite how much research I put in, the research was probably of bad quality, but I can still hope.

I'm also hoping my family enjoy Christmas this year, she'd previously said that she doesn't really feel into the Christmas spirit at the moment but I hope to change her mind when I come home for Christmas as I want to take her some places and enjoy some days out.

Re: 2017 accomplishments. - November 24th 2017, 06:54 PM

I stuck by counselling and have been more stable this year, compared to last year. Coming from that, I have been trying to look after myself more and have been going out more, rather than being stuck indoors all the time. So that's an achievement I'm pleased with

I also wrote a blog post that got published by another place that I volunteer for.

By the end of the year, I'd like to finish sorting out my room. I've done a lot and though I can't change much due to limitations, it's nice to see how far it's come along. As the saying goes, 'clear space, clear mind'

I did do some job searching this year, and while I didn't get far, I am hopeful for next year. I also found an interest in pursuing counselling, so hopefully will be studying that next year too

Look at all of you accomplishing the things! I hope you are all very proud of yourselves because you should be.

I finally returned to weekly therapy in February and it has been the longest amount of time that I've stayed with the same therapist. This year was the first time I have ever spoken in explicit detail about my childhood trauma with anyone and is something I never thought I'd do.

I also got to celebrate a full five years (half a decade!) of not attempting to take my life despite still being regularly suicidal and losing someone I loved deeply to suicide.

In 2017 I have:

- Seen more parts of the world that I've wanted to see for a while.
- Booked more holidays overseas.
- Got a new job that challenges me career wise.
- Figured out exactly what I want to do with my career.
- Got a new car.
- Met more people.
- Have become more established as a photographer.
- Managing to deal with my anxiety to a certain degree.
- Discovered more about myself.

Here's to an even better 2018!

Re: 2017 accomplishments. - November 26th 2017, 10:14 PM

I feel like 2017 has been quite a successful year for me actually! Considering the state of 2016, I'm not unhappy with how the year is ending. I have three main accomplishments for this year though:

1. I GRADUATED. I wanted to graduate and basically prove that someone from a background with no history of university at all can go into it and be successful and I did. And, I know that I would have made my nan so super proud of me if she'd been here to see it happen.

2. I started volunteering in January and it's honestly been one of the best things ever because I challenged myself to go right out of my comfort zone and I've really loved it.

3. I started driving lessons, and although I'm nowhere near passing my practical, I DID pass my theory test, and I am slowly working through the crippling road anxiety I have so I can get a little run around of my own.

Re: 2017 accomplishments. - November 27th 2017, 07:12 AM

Everyone has accomplished so much this year. You all should be proud of yourselves.

I'd also like to add that I was able to talk to a family member about some of the verbally abusive things my mom did. Things that none of them were ever aware of and things that, hopefully, opened their eyes to the fact that I didn't have this perfect childhood and that my mother didn't favor me...

It's a misconception I've wanted to talk about and change within my family for quite some time but it is embarrassing to talk about.

I think the accomplishment I've made this year is really realizing who I am, my purpose in the world, the purpose of life and what the end-game is. It seems like nothing, but it's definitely something for me because I think it'll be the first step in coming out of this state of depression that's been part of my life since I was about ten years old, more than two decades ago.

1. I had a job for several months, which was the longest I ever had one.
2. I've been way more social than I used to be, a few years ago I couldn't even talk on the phone to anyone.
3. I'm more proactive in standing up for myself, both physically and mentally.
4. I'm not self harming as frequently.
5. I've made new friends and am being more open to people.

Became friends with the people I met at university
Started to do sports again even if its just light exercise
Finaly adressed my stomach issues
I learned what it feels like to be motivated and normal and a lot more balanced
And now that I think of it I also started my job this year
