I have (mostly) good grades! - February 3rd 2009, 04:38 PM

I just felt like posting a thread, because recently, the past few weeks have been pretty good. We had an early dismissal from school today (the last time this happened was 4 years ago, when I was visiting the school as an 8th grade prospective student), which was a welcome surprise.

I'm taking AP Physics. Last term, I had an A- at midterm, and a B+ at the end of the term, same in AP Calculus. My college counselor said that if (and only if) I can bring those grades up, he'll send my winter midterm grades to the colleges I've applied to (normally only the fall term grades get sent).

So last week, we had a take-home quiz, on which I got a 93.5. And then today, we got back a more recent take-home quiz and a lab report. I got a 100 (!!!) on the second quiz, and an A- (~90) on the lab report, which means... I have an A in AP Physics!

In Calculus, we had a test a few weeks ago, and I got a 96. We had a test today, and I calculated that I need at least an 89 to get an A for midterm, or an 83 to get an A-. I think I did pretty well on the test, so... I have an A/A- (theoretically could be lower but I don't *think* I got worse than an 83 on the test) in AP Calculus!

I'm also taking Biotechnology. Last term, I had an A. When I got deferred from the two colleges I applied to early action (MIT and Caltech), I asked the Biotech teacher to write me an additional recommendation, which she did. We have to write a "log book" of basically what we've been doing in class, and I got an A+ on my log book when she checked it (even though technically teachers at my school aren't supposed to give A+s- only As- even if something scores 100%, I guess I was just *that* awesome). And then, today we got back the tests that we took last week, and I got a 95, so... I have an A in Biotechnology!

One of my least favorite classes ever (yes, ever) and my least favorite class that I'm currently taking is AP French Language. Last term, at midterm, I had a B- (I was doing B+ work, I just handed a lot of it in late), but I "shaped up" for the end of the term and handed in all my stuff on time, so I had a B at the end of fall term. But this term, I've been doing pretty well, and... I have either a B+ or A- in AP French!

I also have an A in IB Visual Arts.

*Note the (mostly) in the title. This refers to English, which has always been hard for me. Last term I had a B+, but this term, I'm not sure. Our midterm grade is based on an in-class essay (I got a B), class participation (I'm not sure, but I participate a lot so probably A or A-?), and 3 reading quizzes (this is my downfall- my scores are like 43, 33, 75- at least I passed one of them, right?). So on Friday I asked the teacher if there was anything I could do to get some extra credit. He said to write a paper and have it by Monday. I did that, and yesterday when I handed it to him, he saw the title and said he liked it, which is good, I guess. I know that class participation is 1/3 of the grade, but I'm not sure what % the essay and reading quizzes are, so I don't know what my grade is. I'm hoping that, with the extra credit, it won't be worse than a B-.

Anyway, I'm pretty happy with my grades, and I'd say I'm doing pretty well. Yay me!
