I have... - August 22nd 2010, 07:21 AM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of self harm, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread might therefore not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

The most amazing boyfriend anyone could ask for! Well, he had been supportive beforehand too, when we were unofficially dating, but now that we've made it official, I feel more need to brag about it!

The triggering prefix comes here...
We were talking online, and I mentioned last night that I was dizzy. I didn't tell him why, but it had him worried. So, today I told him why I had been dizzy, I guess I had cut myself a bunch and made myself dizzy from such (which I've never had happen before). I thought he was going to freak out, since he wants so bad for me to quit cutting, and eventually self-harm all together. Instead, he tells me he loves me, and gives me a cyber hug.

This may not seem like such a big deal to some, but to me it's huge. I've been dumped for being "fucked up" (to summarize all the problems) before, and out of the 3 people I opened up to about my cutting, and showed the marks to, 2 of those people (both close guy friends, one IRL who has mental illnesses, and one online who was there for me most the time) disassociated from me. They couldn't handle me, they said I was messed up and shit, and fucked off on me.

Jason has been the only one to stay with me through everything, even when he had been up here to visit, and the one night I got triggered and cut, and he saw the next day or so. He just held me, kissed me, and told me everything will be OK. Also, in the few days after, he'd occasionally check on the healing process, to make sure I wasn't making it worse.

So eh, to some, that may not be a big deal. But to me, it means everything.

No. I know exactly what you mean. I had a guy who used to just kinda...hold my hand and stroke my wrist, so gently, with such like... He just always knew the right thing to say. Its great when someone like that comes along.

Thanks guys! I'm glad to have someone so great in my life, even though he lives so far. But, not for too much longer, since hes saving to move up here with me.

And Hannah, the smallest things can have the biggest impact, of course.

I actually showed this post to Jason, because sometimes he feels like he doesn't do much for me. He said it made him feel so good to read this, and well, made me feel good that I could write this.

Oh my goodness. This right here. I love this story. This speaks volumes to me about the current stage in my life. Like you, I'm trying to recover from cutting. I've also got an amazing guy in my life. We aren't dating, we're in the stage before dating (what everyone around here refers to as "talking"). Anyway, I've also had guys throw in the towel because the thought I was too screwed up. He knows about some of my issues, I know about some of his. He's okay with it.

I'm so glad I met him. Your boyfriend sounds amazing, more guys should take a line out of his book!

Amanda, I'm glad this story meant so much to you.

Yeah, finding that right someone makes the journey easier. My boyfriend used to be that kind of friend, and he knew a bit of what had gone on. When we started unofficially dating online, we had talked more, and now, we know like, everything about each other, and we can talk about anything, really.

I'm glad you've found the same great support, and I wish you and him the best. And yes, he really is something special.
