I'm home!!! -
May 7th 2011, 10:59 PM
(I put this in good days because I'm finally home after being hospitalized for 3 days)
So I was sick for two weeks, get better then get worse then get better. Tuesday morning I woke up, sat up in bed and coughed so hard it felt like I had broken a rib. Luckily my mother in law was coming over to clean up the house for me, and she took me to urgent care. When I got to urgent care the lady at the desk said it would be at least an hour and a half before I would be seen by a doctor. Okay no problem. About five minutes after checking in, and nurse called me in a side room to get my vitals. Once she finished taking notes on symptoms and weight/height she checked my oxygen and immediatly transfered me in to a back room and called a doctor. My oxygen was dangerously low, so the doctor ended up giving me two shots in the butt, about three or four breathing treatments and did an xray on my chest to discover I have a very bad case of pnuemonia. I hadn't had anything to eat that day, so Allen went and got me a box of cheerios from the store down the street. After failing for 4 hours to bring my oxygen up past dangerous levels the doctor decided it would be best to have an ambulance transfer me from urgent care to the e.r. and possibly have me admitted if the e.r. couldn't bring my levels up. In the ambulance I was given more medications, and another breathing treatment. When I got to the e.r. my oxygen was still low, they drew more blood to check for flu viruses and put me on oxygen level 4. After a few minutes of being in the e.r. they decided to admit me and said a room would be ready within an hour or two. I finally got a room around 8 or 9 pm, was told I could use the bathroom on my own as long as I wasn't feeling dizzy and had to keep the oxygen on at all times. They hooked me up to a fluids iv, and an antibiotic iv and also started giving me medications orally. (thank god cause my butt still hurts from the two shots) Wednesday morning they did another x-ray and discovered the tubes in my lungs are not properly formed due to a cystic fibrosis gene I carry. The first doctor made it sounds like I would have problems the rest of my life because of this. (I only saw him once) they called in a respitorary therapist and had him give me breathing treatments every 4 hours. They turned my oxygen down to level 1 some time Wednesday night. Thursday they did a CT scan to check and see how severe the problems are with my lungs. Turns out it's not as bad as the first doctor made it out to be, but the second doctor suggested I see a lung specialist every 1 to 2 years. I was still on oxygen thursday and still receiving breathing treatments every 4 hours a long with a big ol pile of medications. But I was improving. Around 11p.m. Thursday the respitorary therapist came and and said they wanted to see how I did without oxygen but to use it when I went to the bathroom just to be safe. I remained off oxygen the rest of the night and Friday morning. The doctor came in Friday and said as long as I passed a walking test without my oxygen dipping below 89 I could go home without an oxygen tank. They took me off the antibiotic iv, and the fluid iv. During the walking test my oxygen dipped to 89 about 4 times, but since it never went below 89 and when it did hit 89 it quickly picked back up to the 90's the respitorary therapist said I could go home. The doctor prescribed two medications, and the respitorary therapist gave me two funky breathing devices. One to break up the pnuemonia and one to help raise the pnuemonia from the bottom of my lungs. Now I am home with orders to rest, to stay away from people who are sick (so if you live near us and get sick stay away from my family and myself please) and I have to see another doctor in two weeks to make sure the pnuemonia is going away. What an exciting week. :| .:6:21 a.m.:. .:12-01-2007:. .:Logan Jacob:. My Everything I support Project Linus! Wow, glad to hear you're home and doing better. Pneumonia is so scary! I had it last year around this time. But I'm glad you're alright... I'm sure it's been a rough week, so try to get some rest.

Thanks all. I'm resting as much as possible, and eating as much as I can since I went two weeks with eating barely anything.
I've got help with Logan during the day which makes resting easier, I don't have to focus on getting up to feed him every few hours or getting him snacks/drinks. My cats, are clinging to me like new born babies.. the only time they leave my side is when I cough lol. .:6:21 a.m.:. .:12-01-2007:. .:Logan Jacob:. My Everything I support Project Linus!
