Lightbulb Wellness - July 14th 2012, 02:51 AM

Do you wanna feel better? Here are some ways you can feel better without doing anything to make yourself powerful or look selfish:

1. Go to work/school
As much as this might kill you to do.Just do it. Being cooped up in the house all day is not going to help you.

2. Exercise
Exercising will help the happy parts of your brain and you'll be surpised how better you feel. I'm not saying go crazy and exercise everyday for like 3 hours. That would just be impossible. All I'm saying is maybe 2 or 3 times a week you go for 20 minute run, just walk around the neighborhood, or ride a bike or a scooter. Just find something that you like to do exercise wise.

3. Journal
This is a great tool. Simply because no one can judge you, ask you questions, or even think your crazy. Once again I'm not saying go all out. Maybe everyday you just wanna write about your day and how your feeling. Or you could write a story about an issue that you solved. Really anything will do.

4. Support System
This is very important because you need people around you who are going to love you even if you screw up. Almost anyone can be on your support system. Like, your family, closest friends, friends, or even people on TeenHelp. Most importly these people don't even have to know their on your support system. These people should also be the people you look to when you need advice or a little motivation.

Take these 4 simple steps and you'll be feeling better in no time.
Stay Strong and Be Safe.
Love,
Emily

These are some great ideas, Emily. Writing in a journal and finding a strong support system are my two favorites. They've definitely been helpful for me over the past few years. Thanks for sharing these!

These are all great things to do. For me, when I feel depressed and don't want to do anything, getting up and doing the jobs I was supposed to do anyway, like work and school, can help me from sinking further into the depression. They also give you something to take your mind off any thoughts that are going round your head.

With exercise, yoga is a great one to do. It's really relaxing and really good for you as well.

Thanks for sharing these.

These are all great ideas! Thank you for sharing. I follow some of these already. Others gave me ideas. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing. Sometimes when I'm down I read, because I find that I get wrapped up in a book and forget what was troubling me for a time being. I mean, it's not something to do all the time, but it helps if you can't do anything about it at that moment. Scratch out the reading part, and put in your favourite thing to do.

I've said it once, I've said it twice, I've said it a thousand fucking times
That I'm OK, that I'm fine, that it's all just in my mind
But this has got the best of me, and I can't seem to sleep
It's not 'cause you're not with me, it's cause you never leave

What a great thing to post, Emily! And you're so right about #1 - no matter how I'm feeling, when I go to work, my mind becomes occupied with other things. Even though it can be difficult, just getting up and doing something you know you have to do can make a huge difference!

Have you thought about joining the Articles Team to write more recovery and wellness related articles?

Hell yes, this is my current program. I plan to exercise, and get a job if I can find one while recording life along in a place of support.
Honestly, I haven't been doing half of that though but I can vouch for this.

So true! A lot of people I know have been skeptical about exercising when feeling down but this is probably the best natural cure out there! (at least for me xD)

So true, such a good post Emily! Thank you for this. For me, I actually already journal(which I find so incredibly helpful) and I try to keep up a strong support system. Thank you for the other ideas as well, I do agree that you should try to get on the articles team. You'd make a great addition. :P
