Unhappy Eh? This isn't supposed to happen, is it? - November 13th 2012, 08:47 PM

Title says it all. Except it doesn't. Oh well

Anyway, I'm slightly confused right now, so here's how the story goes...

For a little while now, I've been really interested in web-development...and being awesome, my school has encouraged it with a few extra lessons from a teacher, and some references.
But of everyone, the ICT Support Manager (let's call him "C") at school has been brilliant.
He's given me room on his servers, he's given me advice about web coding, and things generally, and he's been really kind; he's a really great person.

I saw today on the vacancies page of the school site, that his job is currently available.
When I asked him, he confirmed that he was, indeed, leaving.

Now, normally I wouldn't really feel that much if someone was leaving - it happens all the time.

But right now I feel really awful because he's leaving.

Is it normal to feel quite so upset because a member of school staff is leaving? I know why I'm upset - I like him, he's an exceptional person and member of staff - but I'm not quite sure why I feel quite so terrible.
Any suggestions?

You know what? That is perfectly normal in my opnion. :-) some teachers are just teachers but some can get you on a deeper level. When i left school i had 1 teacher in particular i had a "bond" with. Not only did she get me from a D to an A* but she was always there for when my personal problems arose. I wouldnt worry, yes its dissapointing he is leaving and i can understand why. But no, i dont see why this would be abnormal or weird in any way :-) Hope i have helped, stay strong!

Hey there mate,

Yes, it is normal! I cried when I left school because I didn't want to leave a teacher and she cried for me, consequently. But, when my favourite teacher left everybody was really depressed..it's normal to feel bad when a teacher you like leaves. IN primary school I was teachers pet to every teacher and I hated moving classes because of it.. I hated it when Mister G left, he was really funny, and would always drift off topic and talk about his time in the army. He was awesome.

Jay.

Same here, my year six teacher got me into writing, she noticed my talent and before that I didn't know much, I didn't even leave a line for dialogue, nor did I know what full stops do but I still had the potential and a way with words. So she brought the topic up with me, and asked me to write a short story, she'd edit it, and then send it in to a magazine from that moment and all her encouragement that year, I began my literary career

Jay.
