Superstitions - April 28th 2013, 01:26 PM

Do you follow any superstitions? Even if you know they aren't real. I always make a wish if I catch 11:11 I don't know why, I don't believe in it at all.

Re: Superstitions - April 28th 2013, 01:38 PM

Yeah, I do!

Like you, I always try to catch 11:11(including 11 seconds) to make a wish.
I try not to walk under ladders.
Not so much black cats, because I had a black cat one. He was the one struck with bad luck, not my family.
I always look for four leaf clovers.
Whenever I see a rainbow, I always look for the end of it in hopes of finding a large pot of gold.

I know some aren't superstitions, but they're stories that aren't exactly truthful. That's what makes a superstition a superstition.

Re: Superstitions - April 28th 2013, 02:06 PM

My superstitions are along the lines of knocking on wood so good luck wouldn't be jinxed or have an evil eye on it. And it can't be fake wood or it counteracts. But I never have wood on me so I do it in my mind lol. It depends on what mood I'm in to be honest. One day I would avoid stepping on cracks in the sidewalks. I'm not sure if this counts but I take pinky promises VERY seriously.
Sometimes I have random outbursts of something happening and I need to act fast. But it is more having to do with the things I think about/imagine
I don't think walking on tip toes because the serpent might hear me is a superstition Or is it

Re: Superstitions - April 28th 2013, 02:53 PM

*how did I forget? I have a bathroom in my room (you have to go through my room to get there) and I always need that door closed in case evil spirits come out. When a family member doesn't close the door behind them I make sure they go back and close it before they leave my room
I have to flex my stomach muscle at least once a week.
I'm not sure if this counts but I have spoons and forks that I select to use each time. Sometimes I feel adventurous and eat with another colored eating utensil
I taught myself to bike with one hand and I have to prove to myself I still have that ability by testing myself whenever I go riding

I don't think so, mainly because I tend to forget or just aren't bothered. I do wish on 11:11 though but I read somewhere that there is probably someone who wishes that no-one else wishes comes true so, that's always in my mind when I do it.

Can I ask why 11:11 is popular...?? Is it because it's the only time with repeating digits that occurs twice a day??

I try not to step on cracks and in our school I try to step on tiles pointing the same way as my foot(don't know if that counts)

We're all weird in our own ways

P.S. Oh I forgot in our house we have tile squares and I always try to walk in a chess knights formation(2 over 1 down)

It's the only repeating time that has four of the same number though (unless you count 00:00 for 22:22 in 24-hour format, but 11:11 is the only one which can be found in both 12-hour and 24-hour time formats).

Anyways, my main superstition is the classic number 13. I go to great lengths to avoid that number. Like, if I have 13 of something, I'll drop one or try to get another. And Friday the 13ths scare me.

I don't believe in superstitions or do that. If I do, such as stepping on a certain amount of cracks or avoiding them or anything like that, it's because I have OCD.

Re: Superstitions - April 28th 2013, 07:55 PM

Hm... let me see....whenever I catch it, I do make a wish at 11:11, and I always get scared at that time that whatever I'm thinking about at that time will try to count as my wish, but NO!, it shouldn't be that way :P
Hm... when an ambulance goes by, I make the sign of the cross instantly, I don't even think about it.
My sister opened an umbrella inside and I screamed. My dad dropped the salt and I screamed. I hang a dream catcher in my room and I can't bare when people say Good Luck... nope. La la la la la la can't hear youuuuu xP

I do 11:11 and eyelash wishing, as well as knocking on wood.

Re: Superstitions - April 30th 2013, 04:51 AM

Well, I don't TRULY believe in superstitions but I do them anyway for some reason. Not sure if some of these count. I'm a bit OCD.
  • On Thanksgivings, I make a wish with the wishbone from the turkey.
  • I make wishes when I blow out the candles on my birthday cake.
  • I make wishes with shooting stars.
  • I have a black cat, but if I see a strange one walk in front of me, I feel scared.
  • Our house is tiled so I try to stay in the tiles when I walk.
