How long have you been living here. - May 4th 2013, 08:45 PM

And I don't mean yourself, particularly, unless you've moved to the current country after birth. How long has your family been in the country you're living in?

For me, it ranges from 100-177 years. The shortest is my mom's paternal grandparents. They moved here from Lithuania in 1913. The longest is my dad's direct paternal descendant, back five generations, they moved here from Ireland in 1836.

Most of my family is in Massachusetts, but there's some in other states. I have distant relatives in Georgia and South Carolina. My closer relatives, the ones I actually consider family because I've met them, live in New York, California and New Hampshire.

My parents were in the military when I was born (they were from the U.S.) but I moved here when I was about two. So I've been in the United States for 12 years.

Past living memory on both sides.
UK through and through. (so we're quite possibly French then. - or at least, I think it fairly likely on my father's side)

Re: How long have you been living here. - May 4th 2013, 09:34 PM

Okay I might be a bit inaccurate with details but it's more or less.
Both my parents were born and raised in Lebanon. My mother and her siblings and parents moved when she was in her teens to NYC. I think the year is 1972. She went to France for university, but I'm not sure where that comes in :P

My dad came I think in late 1970s or early 1980s. He was also a teenager, a runaway. He first went to France, went to university there, then came to the US. He lived in a few different states before he came to NYC.

I was born in France Even though I'm a middle child, I'm the only one born outside the US.
Personally, I lived in France, Washington State, Canada and NYC and now continue to live in NYC. I came to the US from Canada when I was 5 years old and now I'm 19 so...(19-5=14) 14 years

I have family in Canada, Lebanon, Nigeria, France and extended family in several countries in Asia and the middle east (besides Lebanon)

Both sides of my family have been born in Britain, dating as far back as the early 1600's, where a few french ancestors appear on my family tree

On my father's side, we've been in New Zealand a long time, I think around 200 years - they came over on one of the earlier ships and settled near what's now Whanganui. I'm fairly sure that the paternal side of my family was here pre-treaty.

On my mother's side, myself and my siblings are first-generation. My mother herself was born in Australia, and the family migrated when there were marriage issues, as my Nana's sister was already here, in Taihape.

My parents were both living and working in Auckland when they met, and I and my siblings were all born in Auckland.

Both sides of the family trace directly back to the greater UK region.

My aunt in France comes a few times a year around holiday time and the during the summer...my uncle from Nigeria used to come too but haven't seen him in five years more or less. The rest I've only spoken to on the phone and the ones from Lebanon don't speak English...I tried with my broken Arabic to talk on the phone . The rest I have no formal contact with them, but my dad gets news about how they're doing every now and then through word of mouth.

Pretty much time immemorial. I know that my mother's side of the family came from Wales/England, but I've no idea how long ago they came to County Limerick or why. It's possible that they were granted land during the Munster Plantations. As for my father's side of the family, I can't trace any ancestors outside of the south-west of Ireland. They obviously came from somewhere else originally, but I don't know where.

About 160 years.. If we're just talking the Irish part of my family. I'm also part Norwegian & German and Cherokee (Native American). But I'm mostly Irish.. -- My great great grandparents on my dads side came over to America in the early 1850's. (:

As for the other members that are different nationalities that make up, well, me.. I honestly have no clue. I'd have to call up my grandparents.. They did a family tree awhile back.. I just never studied it very well. :P I know my great great grandma on my dads moms side was cherokee, which is where I get that from.. So she's always been here.. but.. yeah..

Done rambling now.

As far as I'm aware, my family have always lived in England, or at least in the UK. I don't know of any family members who have parents or grandparents born abroad so.

Oh, I thought the question was towards how long you've lived on TH....
I honestly... have no idea how long we've been in the US. I know that my family has been here at least since the 1800s....

My dad's side of the family has been here in the U.S. a while. However, on my mom's side of the family, my grandpa was the first generation to move here from Greece.

I'm fourth generation in Canada. Dad's grandparents came over from Ukraine and mom's grandparents came over from the UK. Not sure exactly what time frame they came over, just know that my grandparents were the first of my family who were born in Canada.

A lot of you come from diverse areas from around the world. I'm a bit jealous! I mean, a majority of people in my state are Irish and/or Italian because that's just what happened in the 19th century with the Irish and Italian emigration.

My dad's side of the family moved here (US) in my great grandfather's generation. That was around 100 or so years ago They were from Greece.

My mom's side of the family has been here for a LONG time. Before the Civil War. I don't actually know when though They were from Germany and France I believe
