What's up with intelligence? - May 14th 2013, 01:37 AM

Is it me or do some people think differently thank others?

Like smarter people think faster which makes them seem random but really they have just gone through a whole line of thought.

Some people don't have the same emotional patterns as others. Instead of being emotionally involved in something that other's would, some people go through that subject calmly and logically.

It's not a mental illness. It's just a different way of thinking.

I don't think I'm crazy, I just think I'm different

Just my thoughts!

Oh yes absolutely
theres the theory of multiple intelligences

I suggest you research the Myers Briggs test

It's not just you. People do think differently than others. Some people have a high level of cognitive/academic intelligence, while others have succeed better in art, music, dance, or other skills/talents (in case you're interested, look up Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences. It's really interesting, and will explain what I mean further than I can). Since you mentioned it, there IS such thing as emotional intelligence (just like intelligence is measured with an IQ, emotional intelligence is measured with an EQ). Emotional intelligence is a pretty simple concept. Basically, it's the ability to understand and manage your own emotions, while understanding and sympathizing with other's emotions. Not everyone has this, and it can be difficult for some people to have a sense of empathy, or to simply understand their own emotions. A lot of people tend to struggle with managing their own emotions, and that leads to a lot of problems (such as anger outbursts, emotional instability, and probably lack of interpersonal relationships). Although a lot of people tend to stick one type of intelligence upon the human race, that's just not the case (that rhymed ). Humans can be intelligent in tons of ways, and lack in other ways. It's just how it is. It doesn't make someone any less of a human, and it definitely doesn't mean there are any disabilities present (unless it interferes with their cognitive/daily function).

Long story short: it's not just you. You're right.

I looked it up and I took a free test
It described me to a t! My personality is INTJ.
That explains my terrible communicating skills haha

I also took a multiple personalities test and that described me pretty well. Not as well as the Myers Briggs test but still helped me understand myself a bit more.

Thank you for your help It's nice to know that I'm not just crazy lol

There should be a personality forum. That'd be awesome! We could all discuss the awesomeness and not so awesomeness of our personality types.

Speaking on the topic of INTx personalities, how are your communication and emotional skills? Mine are severely lacking... but that is typical INTJ *sigh*

Definitely - there's been reams of studies on intelligence and all its different counterparts. It's been seen as fairly conclusive that there are different types of intelligence - sure you can see it yourself in school with people who are amazing at maths but struggle with languages and people who are the other way round - I used to get A's in French but fail maths :P
