is this wierd? - October 21st 2013, 01:13 AM

Hi. so recently I've noticed something that I find very weird and frusterating. There are these two perfumes that I sometimes wear but I didn't for awhile so that's why I hadn't noticed it till now. Everytime I spray/smell these two sents I get this feeling that makes me kinda scared and nervouse and it also has triggered me on occasion. Like it seems as if I'm reliving something bad that happened but I can't place what it is. Is this weird? does/has this ever happened to anyone else?

Hey Kayle,

Sometimes things we see, hear, smell, taste or experience can bring triggers back to us even when it's not related. It does happen yes.

Does wearing that kind of perfume bother you to the point you feel uncomfortable using it because of the triggers? Could you try not wearing it for a week or two and see if the triggers are still there when your not using it? Also if you do that, make sure you wash all your clothing as perfume sticks to clothing (and to ensure all perfume isn't used or smells during the time of not using it) to see if you still have these triggers or not. Could you try this?

Take Care.

It could be that the two scents remind you of things that you might have forgotten, if that makes sense, hence why you feel that way and it could be triggering. If it continues to make you feel that way, it might be a good idea to stop using them and as said, washing any of the clothes you've worn with them to get rid of the smell as it does tend to stick to things.

I agree with the above two users. The sense of smell is one of the strongest memory triggers out of all the senses so you could have been wearing this perfume or been around something/someone with a similar smell when something bad happened which you may have forgotten all about now.

So I don't think your weird for this. If it bothers you a lot then I'd say just don't wear the perfume, find a different one that doesn't trigger any bad feelings.

I hope this helped!
