Why is it that the plural of mouse is mice, the plural of louse is lice, but the plural of house isn't hice, and the plural of grouse isn't grice?

English is one of the hardest languages in the world to understand. Even for English speakers. By the way, I have never heard of the word "louse" .

Louse is the singular term for lice

Yeah, English is an incredibly difficult language to learn and understand, especially for people that don't speak it as their first language.
