how to go about moving out - October 28th 2015, 08:12 PM

what are some things I should do or have before I love out? and do you have any advice on how to obtain those things?

for example, an obvious necessity is a job, but I really don't have any idea how to get one. I submitted an application online once, but never heard back.

i'm hoping to move out either after i turn eighteen or when i finish high school. depending on how bad things get.
any advice is greatly appreciated!!

i don't know what i'm supposed to do

A job is a necessity. You need to submit more than one application. If you really want the job, you need to call and follow up with them regarding their interviewing and hiring process. That'll show them that you are committed and want the job. Along with that, a savings account with a deposit (almost all apartments require first, last, and next month's rent before moving in) and some extra money in case of an emergency. You obviously need a job or some sort of income in order to save money, so that would be the first steps.

Everything after that is finding a suitable apartment that meets your budget, which you can find online or by walking around a neighborhood (I suggest online ). I found my apartment on Craigslist. Then finding furniture for your apartment, which again costs money so you need to save up a lot. Then of course moving in and paying rent every month.

Honestly, you have to save A LOT of money. It costs a lot to live on your own. Can you live with a roommate or another family member or something so you can get on your feet? It's extremely hard to be on your own at just 17/18 years old. I wasn't on my own until I was 19 and even then I was living with my partner and I had her support.

There is no beauty without some strangeness.

I would just like to add that you may be able to get assistance by applying for low-income housing, food stamps Etc. This is based on your income so it would not hurt to look into. Also some areas have programs that help high school graduates learn how to apply for jobs and other independent life-skills like learn budgeting Etc. Researching if any of these resources are available to you also could prove useful.
