I have a dumb question xD - November 11th 2015, 08:30 AM

But anyways my dumb question is just like hypothetically speaking, midnight I know starts at 12am, but I wonder, if it's still between 12-1am, does that still count as being midnight, say if it's 12:30am does it still count as midnight, or does midnight end right after it hits 12 am? xD

I personally think of midnight as exactly 12:00am, just as 12pm is noon. I think it's because of the academic way of using that word has to do with deadlines, and if I were to submit something past 12:00 on the dot it will be considered late.

Tecnically I think it's 12 am on the dot and anything after wouldn't be midnight any more, but in general speech I refer to anything between about 11:45 pm and 12:45 am as midnight.

Interesting question! Midnight is technically 12:00 AM as you know, so isn't 12:30 AM still 'mid'night? For me, I see it as midnight up until 1:00 AM.

Re: I have a dumb question xD - November 11th 2015, 11:45 PM

While terms like 'afternoon' and 'morning' are fairly broad, for me 'midnight' and 'midday' are specific times: 12am and 12pm respectively. Anything after that I tend to refer to as 'after midnight', 'before one', or 'twelve whatever-the-time-is'. So from 12-1 is still mid-night, it's just not really midnight.

Like Chess said, midnight is 12:00 AM. Mid-night (middle of the night) is any time between 12-3 AM.

The same goes for noon and mid-day. Noon is at 12:00 PM and mid-day is between 12-2 PM.

I always count midnight as 12 o'clock on the dot. Same as midday.
