Bed bugs. - February 1st 2016, 06:37 AM

Has anyone ever had them before? So far we've found three that have journeyed onto the top of our sofa. We're going to contact maintenance tomorrow to see what they can do for us, but does anyone here have experience with them? We've always thought I've just had random hives and this discovery confirms they are bed bug bites. So gross, but better news than having roaches I guess. I mean, our house isn't dirty and anyone can get bed bugs, but still. If anyone that has any thoughts on these gross little critters shared said thoughts that would be nice.

I've never had bed bugs before, but that would be horrible! I hope the maintenance people can get rid of them for you. I've heard that its important to wash all your bedding, or even throw it out, which would make sense. Having bed bugs is definitely better than roaches, but they are still gross all the same.

Have fun with them

I disagree on the bed bugs being worse than roaches but I live in a place where roaches are common for anyone, even clean people lol. Anything like stuffed animals should be basically suffocated in plastic bags for a few days. Do you have carpet or hard floors? And they're in the mattress more than the sheets so I'm not sure how you'd get rid of them.

I read that bed bugs travel in card board boxes which is why they're pretty prevalent in most parts of the US. Though we also have a theory that I brought them home from the hospital last year that had them before since that it when the bite marks started appearing. Regardless of how they got here, I want them OUT. Thanks for your thoughts, peeps!

Re: Bed bugs. - February 2nd 2016, 05:29 AM

In 2013, when I still lived with my parents, we had bed bugs. My mother and her husband brought them back in their luggage after going on a trip. I, too, would not necessarily say that they are better than roaches. I won't go into the entire story here, but suffice to say, they can be extraordinarily difficult to exterminate. My best suggestion is to make sure you wash all your clothes and linens that can be washed on warm, warm, and to call your maintenance department as soon as possible. Bed bugs are difficult to treat and the longer they go unchecked the more out of control it can get.

I have never experienced them.
I do know that we have had a couple of incidents here at my college and they have the people sleep in different rooms, wash their linens very thouroughly and they exterminate the room for like two or so days.
Hopefully the process goes smoothly for you and your family.
