Whats the best way to live by this phrase? - February 15th 2016, 09:34 AM

"don't count the days, make the days count."?. A lot of time I feel as if life is way too quick. I want to learn to cherish and savor each moment.

Sometimes this can be made much more difficult than necessary with changes in lifestyles and work. Especially in work, when the measurements of time and subsequent targets get shorter and shorter and each moment becomes more critical. Some ways to magnify the significance of every day events is to journalise the things you are grateful for, and attempt to appreciate the little things in life, by writing them down and subsequently forcing yourself to explain them. Another way you could make your moments count would be to substitute occupations of comparatively small moments of your life. For example, going to the nearby charity kitchen and volunteering there a bit after work or on the weekends, rather than going to the pub for some drinks at the same time. This substitution means that you are not extending the schedule you normally have.

Make charity contributions every week and if possible, give the charities and the people that work for them, the money directly, shake their hands and hear their stories. Make contributions on here rather than watching Epic Meal Time for example .

In my opinion phrases like that are interpreted on an individual basis, meaning each person's view of the phrase will likely be different. For me it's something along the lines of learning new things and having new experiences as I'm always up for an adventure. What does the phrase mean to you? What things in life do you enjoy and want to make the most of?

If you're not sure what you want to do in the future, remember that you're only 16 and while life may very well seem short, sometimes you have to allow for a slow start to have a much more enjoyable experience late on in the future.

Life is for living, not for losing.

I think one of the biggest things is trying to avoid thinking like "I can't wait for Friday" or "Is it the weekend yet?" So many people spend so much of their life wasting weekdays, waiting for the weekend to have fun but there's no reason you can't enjoy Mondays just as much as a Friday. For me personally, I had a specific moment that changed my view. I had spent the day with friends and we saw Perks of Being a Wallflower and on the way home I sat in my friend's car and realized just how much I enjoyed the day and that specific moment. I knew it'd be something I remembered for a long time. Now I find it easier to see the moments like that one.

Yeah but you know how people say time flies when you enjoy a moment? I want to be able to make it last quite a while tbh.

There's really no way to, but make the most of it. Seconds will go longer if you do absolutely nothing, but is that how you really want to live your life? Doing absolutely nothing? There's a reason people say "time flies" because you're not preoccupied with each passing second and minute. Just make the most of it, and I think some ways you can improve the experience is to:

- Stay awake longer. Get up at 5:30 AM or 6 AM instead of sleeping in. That way, you get to experience more of the day. Go to sleep at 9. Then if you're up at 5:30 in the morning and go to sleep at 9 at night, you're awake nearly 2/3rds the day!
- Drink caffinated beverages in moderation and I strongly recommend coffee. Stay away from the sugary drinks that will make you crash. Coffee won't do this, but don't drink too much that you'll be regretting it years from now.
- Do things that you believe you will look back on in a decade or two down the road and realize you're glad you did that. Your life might take a turn for the better instead of the worse if you do more productive things.

Because when you look back at yourself today in the year 2036, you want to say "twenty years seems like yesterday" instead of "twenty years seems like a couple lifespan of the universe " you know?
