Hi question. - February 13th 2019, 08:42 PM

I'm not sure what spot for this, hope it's right, if not sorry.
Hello I was wondering if anyone can help me out with this when you have time please because it's driving me crazy.

So I've been on the teen crisis helpline different times and I will give my name and sometimes I don't give my name when I click the chat anonymously box and sometimes they still ask for my name. I'm wondering why do they care about our names and still ask when we click the anonymously box? I know it's a stupid question and I'm sorry, it's bothering me.

Re: Hi question. - February 13th 2019, 11:39 PM

Hey there,

I volunteered for Crisis textline for a while and they ask a persons name for a few reasons but the biggest reason is because it's supposed to help make the volunteer and the person calling in connect. Having someones name and referring to them by name leads to a slight connection.

I agree with this mindset because I feel more human when people refer to me by name. I feel like they are seeing me.

If you are uncomfortable giving your name you have the option to use a fake name. The few times I used a chat line I would give them my middle name instead of my real name. I am sure if you told them you weren't comfortable giving them your name they would be okay with that as well.
