Post What's your "natural" emotional state? - June 3rd 2009, 04:17 AM

I was just wondering how many emotional states there are that people "live in." Emotional states bounce around a lot - but what's the one that you always revert to and may or may not be fighting with/ against?

I've always been angry. It's easier for me to be angry than experience anything else. I've always felt like a ticking time bomb that can go off at any second, kind of like there's a cage lurking within me with a monster locked away always clawing at the bars trying to escape. I don't like to inflict things inwards, it's always directed at some kind of target. When it comes out, I have to struggle to lock it away again. If it gets too intense it's paralyzing, feeling like I can really explode - actually feels like I'm still an "animal."

I'm told that I used to be a happy kid all the time, guess it's just what school did to me - with everyone, including teachers, knocking me down. That, plus, I always took criticism badly. Guess part of it was my father running off on my mother, forcing her to put me up for adoption upon birth. Wouldn't change things, the parents I have now are "the Kents," but still doesn't get rid of the anger directed at my birth father.

Always bounces in between various states of mind, but the one I "live in" is anger. It's what I struggle with and always try to keep under control and in check, in fear of what will happen if that side completely takes over.

I don't know. I'm a good person, nice, but when I'm on the internet, I'm usually irritated of some sorts.

I'm usually rather numb. Truly upsetting me generally takes a lot, and getting upset is reserved for people and situations I care about. I don't typically default to happy, because I'm just bored with life lately, and see every day as the same as the last. I usually sit somewhere in the middle, not necessarily angry or sad, but definitely not happy.

Most of the time I'm angry because of everything that I've done/happened to me just runs through my head and it just angers me. I have my calm moments and my happy moments but they only come from time to time.

I'm usually quite a happy person until something sets me off. Then it would always be anger. Followed by numbness but I usually get rather content soon after. So yeah, I'm generally happy and it makes life a little easier than when I'm angry.

I'm usually depressed or numb.

Sometimes I'll just be thinking and immediately I feel depressed or down.
Usually when someone really gets to me I'll go through the motions of being angry and after I've been angry I go totally numb.

I picked depression because it always seems to be there as a 'base', so even if I'm messing around and laughing, I'll still feel depression 'holding me back' or in the background... It's hard to explain.
Sometimes it depends though. If i'm not depressed then I'm usually feeling numb. Occasionally, I am quite an angry person but I wouldn't really say that it was a 'constant' state, but when I am angry then it doesn't tend to subside until a while later.

I'm mostly a very peaceful person when I'm at school + around my friends or by myself. I put happy cuz that's as close as that gets for choices. WHen I'm by myself I can be very peaceful but if my parents get in the way I tend to change to being angry.

I can't really choose one of those words. I'd say I'm indifferent I don't really feel happy or sad I just feel there usually but recently I've been stressed and irritable.

I usually have a straight face on so I would be numb or just flat. I put on a mask to be happy at camp because i am a counselor and I kind of have to, but that is my state.

I move between numbness and depression. Most of the time I just don't feel anything at all (well, there's a certain ambient depression, but I'm used to it), but occasionally I just spend a few days horribly depressed.

Re: What's your "natural" emotional state? - June 4th 2009, 03:46 AM

I've found that most of the time I'm numb... It's like nothing that happens really matters or affects me like it would a 'normal' person. I typically care nothing for my own saftey and don't care of the consequences of my actions. I know where this emotional state began but I don't understand why I'm still like this...

I'm hormonal and female. I'm not sure I can categorize myself when it comes to emotion...

Ech. I lie. It's the denial speaking...

Truth be told, I'm depressed. It hit me when I was 14 and I've tried my damn well hardest to hide it. But, as you probably know, it's nearly impossible to when the feeling gets too intense...

You said, "It's easier for me to be angry than experience anything else. If it gets too intense it's paralyzing, feeling like I can really explode - actually feels like I'm still an "animal." "

I empathize.

I truly hope you find the answers your looking for in life... not just this thread. XP

Hard to say. I'm usually just quiet. Not necassarily happy, just sort of content and watching.

But I do take anti-depressants to keep the depression away- but that's not the way I originally am.

I guess i'm mostly in a 'depressed' state, it's hard to get out of as the feelings are so strong. But there are times where I'm not necessarily happy but still in a better mood. It's natural for me to feel depressed, I've felt it nearly all of my life so it's usually how I feel first thing in the day, but things can change that as the day goes on. I seem to only really have 2 states of mind - depressed or really hyper. I'm never really found in the middle, I guess I don't know how to balance myself.
Anger is out of the question, I never get angry. Well.. of course I do at times but I get scared of myself so much when I'm angry that I avoid it like the plague. Very rarely will you see my temper.

Numb mostly. Well I guess that's what I can call it, it's really hard to explain. I feel emotionally detatched from everyone constantly and alot of the time my head is just clear of any kind of thoughts. Say if i'm in the car i'll just sit gazing out the window thinking and feeling nothing....like a Zombie. It's the same when i'm at work or around people (even my family) at home. That's what it mostly comes down too, although quite often when i'm alone i'll slip into a depressed state, where I feel exactly like a child again. Hard to explain again. =/

I'd have to say I live in numb. I can easily show different emotions but I rarely feel them past the muscles in my face. But on rare occasions when I do feel, emotions are extreme and take over me.

It's kinda mixed. For the most part I'm happy but tend to be really impassive and nothing phases me: good or bad.

I am always angry, like boiling, about to explode anger. The I-hate-everyone anger. You might not notice just being around me untill you look me in the eyes but I can scare people with just that look I'm so fucking angry.

I also said anger, but it's interesting to hear someone else describe it. I don't feel like it's an animal inside of me (most of the time), but like a toxin in my bloodstream. Like a disease, kind of. I get angry with myself a lot. I mean, my mom gets annoyed at me for being so mean to myself. I lash out and get sarcastic and mean when debating anything with people. It's gotten to the point I rarely argue with ANYONE besides my family, and I usually fuck up and offend them.

I do have periods where I'm pefectly happy, depressed, etc, and sometimes my anger flares up and I have to consciencely fight it, but for the most part, it's like... hate under my skin.

For me I think it's mostly "numb." I really feel nothing, but when I'm at that state most people look at me and say "What's wrong? You look so sad." It's not very hard for me to start feeling sad and angry when I'm at that state though. I try not to let myself get to there, I usually try and be happy.

Truthfully I can't say I am in a depressed state all the time because I would be lying and I can't say I am happy because that would be lying. Really I just float through life feeling numb. I will feel the occasional happy feeling or sad(which both are reliefs) but in the end I think numbness rules my world.

But, I can't complain because depression used to rule and I hated it and wanted to die and I would never want that feeling back. Numb is a new and better feeling as sad as that might sound.

Content, tired and narcissitic. (yes, at the same time)

i am usually a numb person. i noticed it is a natural state i fall into, and i think it is because i am usually alone.

there are people that make me happy, i easily fall under spells of depression and anger. i just try to mask it with a smile- and it usually works. but masking it is exhausting, so that is why i like to distance myself and be alone.

Arrogant and don't feel the emotions, with the exception of limited anger. So I vote "numb".

Sometimes it depends though. If i'm not depressed then I'm usually feeling numb. Occasionally, I am quite an angry person but I wouldn't really say that it was a 'constant' state, but when I am angry then it doesn't tend to subside until a while later.
I'm pretty much the same. There's always a little bit of depression in the background.
