Book publishing, help? - July 22nd 2009, 02:13 AM

I wrote a book. It's about 80,000 words. I need to get it published ASAP because I want to sell it at a large event in November. It's for a national charity.

Do you think publishing it on eVersion and burning it on a CD would be okay for now? I will obviously make it very professional looking with a cover and wrap and everything...

If not, any other suggestions about how I can get hard copies of my book available to me in a short amount of time, that is not expensive?

I think this link might be helpful
http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/...splay.php?f=47

Let me know if it's what your looking for. If not, there's a ton of information on that site that I think you'll find helpful.

Good luck with your publishing!

Looking at your time frame, it would be very, very difficult to get your book published through a publishing company as you would need to find an agent, pitch your book to various companies (it could take over a year). However, you could definitely go the self-publishing route. Most people like to self-publish because it gives them more flexibility and it tends to be cheaper than getting published by a company. There are many online websites that will let you self-publish through for a small fee. Have you looked at Lulu.com? It is an online company that lets you publish for free and there are many, many people who use their services. I think they even let you sell your book on Amazon for an affordable fee.

createspace.com is the Amazon-supported site I believe.

Do check out the absolute write site--they've got loads of links and info on self-publishing which, as Mai said, is probably your only good bet with such a tight deadline.

It might be a good idea, however, to hire an editor just to give it a read-through and make sure everything's perfect. You don't have to, of course, but it's always an option.

I agree with this post entirely. With such a small time frame, self publishing seems to be the best route- plus you will have more control over it. Lulu.com seems like a great site to use as well. You can find their company profile here. They seem very trustworthy as well and a lot of other writers are using them. "Lulu alone published over 400,000 titles last year."

Good luck with everything =]

Try cafepress.com - basically, you upload a PDF of the inside of your book, and then images for the front cover, spine, and back cover. You only have to order as many copies as you need. The "base price" is determined by the type of binding you select for the book, and then there is a charge per page. You also get to choose the size of your book. If you want to profit off of the book, then you can increase the price.

What I would recommend is ordering a small number of copies of book to sell at the event, and then if they sell out and more people want to order the book, have an order form where they put in their name, adress, phone number, etc., and you can order the books online and have them sent to them.

What's the book about?
