Arrow Moving out under the age of eighteen...? - July 28th 2009, 04:28 AM

Hello all! Thanks for stopping by and helping me with some questions...

My boyfriend really wants to move out. And I don't blame him. I'm not going to get into the details, but I do want to say he isn't getting abused or anything. It is the fact that he is in a stifling environment. He is seriously thinking about moving from Florida to Kentucky, where I live, although I'm not the only factor. He is also running a website with our mutual friend, and to keep the rights (not to mention work on it together) it is far easier to live in the same state. They are very serious about this site, and it will hopefully help launch both of their careers.

He wants to move here as soon as possible. He is seventeen now, and will be eighteen in a bit over half a year. He doesn't want to wait that long, however. Although everything we've discussed about his moving has been serious, we haven't actually taken any steps to bringing him up here (aside from him visiting soon to check out the area). Something came up today though. The fiancee of our mutual friend said that he is willing to become his guardian. (He's old enough to, by the way, so that isn't of any concern). That's a huge step. Plus, my boyfriend would have to go through the emancipation process. It'll be a huge compmlicated ordeal... I'm not sure if he's willing to go through with it. He wants to get out of there very badly and all, but I think when our friend suggested it, how serious everything is just hit him.

So I want to know if there is a way a seventeen year old male could move to a different state, legally, without his parents (but with their permission). I want to know all of the options, even if they seem far-fetched. Thank you!!!

And I want to walk around with you
Just you, just you, just you, just you...

Well if he has his parents permission, he can just leave. No legal process involved, though it is legal. So no worries there. That's why when cops approach a suspected runaway they ask, "Do your parents know where you are?" A kid can go almost anywhere he wants as long as he's got parents permission and he's in good condition(aka, no living on the streets, even with parents permission).

with parent permission, yes he can leave.

When you can't find your way home,
and when life gets too hard to face on your own.
I will stand as a light through the darkness unknown,
I will walk with you, so you're never alone.
