am i being stingy? - August 11th 2009, 05:23 PM

i had no idea where to put this..!

i got given this really nice necklace for my birthday last year.. but it's not really my style so i've never worn it. i've never even taken it out of the box.

so its my friends birthday in a few days and i was gunna give her the necklace that i got given. i know she'd really like it.. and i know i'm never gunna wear it, so i thought there wasn't anything wrong with that.

until my mum goes, "Elle that's so stingy! you can't do that." but i never thought of it like that :/

is my mum right? should i not give it to her?

oh and btw.. the friend who gave it to me and the friend i was going to give it to don't know eachother and don't even have any mutual friends so it's not like she'll be like "oh i gave Elle a necklace like that..".."oh really? Elle gave me this!".. ya knoww?

it's not like it's a cheap neklace either.. its pretty expensive!! and theres nothing wrong with it, i just don't really like it.

sorry for the essay.. opinions, please?

..and our dreams will break the boundaries of our fears..

I think it's fine honestly. If it's a genuinely nice necklace and you haven't even taken it out of the box then I don't see why you shouldn't give it to your friend - it's not like you're giving her something that's horrible.
If you think that your friend will like the necklace then give it to her! I don't think that it's a bad idea!

I think that it's fine. It's better than selling it and it's better than just leaving to sit there until the end of time or something. So in my opinion, not at all.

I don't think it's a bad thing, do you think the friend you're going to give it to will like it? The person that gave it to you might not even remember if she saw it or just thought it was a coincidence that she has the same necklace...?

If you don't wear it and you've never taken it out of the box then why not? It's better then leaving it around to collect dust and it's better then selling it because at least then someone's wearing it. And if you know the two friends won't see each other, you don't have to worry about any awkwardness that could come if she saw her wearing it and not you.

If it were me, I'd give it to her. I don't see anything wrong with it. I mean, if you don't really care for it, it's not doing you any good by keeping it. Why not give it to someone who might really like it?

If you've worn it and just shoved in a box, then I'd say it was stingy of you. Or if it was a really cheap gift given to you, then I'd say it was a bit stingy. However, if it's a nice necklace and you haven't even taken it out of the box, I personally don't see anything wrong with it. That's just my opinion, though. I guess people have different opinions of stingy.

I honestly think its fine, i do the same and with wrapping paper, it stops it going to waste, and really is it any different from selling it and buying the exact same necklace with the money...that wouldn't be seen as stingy would it?x
