Spiders - October 15th 2010, 01:23 AM

So apparently there are black widow and brown recluse spiders where I live.

I am terrified of those spiders and quite worried about getting bitten.
I haven't seen any yet, but that doesn't mean they aren't there.

Does anyone live near those kind of spiders?
If so, what methods do you take to keep your house spider-free?

I don't, not to my knowledge anyway! But that must be really scary Try to find some information on google, I think that's the best option.

Take care.

UGH!! I hate spiders.
My dad got bit by a brown recluse many, many years ago and he almost died.
I'm not sure if there are any black widows here in Indiana or not.
My best advice would be to look it up and find out as much as you can. (How to find the spiders and kill them, how to keep from being bitten, how to tell if you've been bit or not, ect.)

It's not a problem yet. It's a potential problem though.

I think I saw a brown recluse the other day hanging above the porch. We have spider traps...

"Daniel broke the kings decree, Peter stepped from the ship to the sea, there was hope for Job like a cut down tree... I hope that there's such hope for me... Blind as I've become, I used to wonder where you were. These days I can't find where You're not. Mine's been a yard carefully surface tended, foxes burrowed underground. Gardening so highly self-recommended, what could I have done but let You down? The sun and the moon, I want to see both worlds as one." -Aaron Weiss, mewithoutYou

Not in my house but at my grandparents' house there is always black widows in the entrance gate since I remember, I used to be really scared of going through the gate but like other people have said if you don’t bug them they won’t do anything to you.

We have Brown Recluse near us too, and it is scary! We spray the house with this indoor/outdoor bug spray we get from Lowe's/Home Depot. Its supposed to be safe (according to the bottle, safe enough for my son's room ) and we usually just leave to house for a couple hours after. Just give a quick spray around the doors, windows and baseboards! Its worked pretty well. We had these big ugly mo fo's that lived on our back porch that we haven't seen since spraying.

I'm TERRIFIED of spiders! Maybe try and like, keep your windows shut all the time? I don't know its worth a shot, or just have lots of spray that kills them

I've thought about buying bug spray. My goal is to make sure they don't get in. They haven't gotten in yet (to my knowledge) so I just want to keep them out and away from my house. I haven't seen them outside my house, but then again, I haven't really looked lol.

We have many, many black widows around my house. I've seen them many times. One of my dogs died suddenly a few years ago and I think he might have been bitten.... and one of my neighbor's dogs got bitten a couple months ago and got really sick. We've had people come spray them, it doesn't seem to work. My mom buys big cans of Raid and sprays around our property every week, but they just keep coming back. If you've been looking (and haven't seen any) then I wouldn't worry about it too much... but once you do get them they're nearly impossible to get rid of.

Oh my goodness. That is sad and way scary. If you have a lot of junk and stuff around your house, that could be a cause. Or trees and bushes.

Movies with spiders in it are great. I haven't seen it but I'm guessing it has spiders in it?

I live were these spiders also live and I have someone spray my place every six months for them I also keep sevrel can's of black flag on hand its farely safe to use if you have other animals just don't use it with them in the same room and its farely cheep as well you can pick up a can or five at your local walmart. it kills on contact and it works for not only spiders ants rotaches and even bed bugs! so its a really usefull thing to keep on hand even if you don't have spiders! also with the black flag you can spray the house yourself with it and it will proect the place for up to six months I've used this when I have been unable to pay someone to come out and spray its an option at least. let me know if this helps

try black flag it works a lot better killing on contact another thing is try to find were they are nesting and destroy the nesting sight be sure you have A LOT of spray and be extremly carful you dont get bit if you ever think you have been bitten go right to the hospital! these things are very dingerous thankfully I've never been bitten by them but I'm extreemly allergic to ALL spider bites and at least once a year I end up in the emerancy room with a spider bite once it was from a brown recluse. NOT FUN anyways for me the black flag has worked so much better then raid and its cheaper! good luck let me know if this helps

we have both of those spiders in my area. yuck.

I buy indoor raid and spray it around the baseboards of every room in the house every six weeks this time of year. They always seem to invade the house when it starts getting cold. Also, use an outdoor spray around the outside of your house, in the garage, etc. If you keep up with it you shouldn't see too many of them.

I've also always been told to shake out clothing, shoes, blankets or anything you leave sit on the floor as brown recluse like to hang out them.

That's way scary. I really hope I never get bitten. Thanks. I'll need to buy raid.

Indoor Raid sounds like a good idea. Should I spray if I haven't ever seen any?
I always hang my clothes up and stuff like that.

How many of those spiders are there actually?
I haven't seen any yet, but I am imagining hundreds or something like that. That is probably just my fear going crazy lol. I used to live about 20 minutes from where I do now, and I never saw any recluses. Why am I so worried now lol?

well.. there are a lot of spiders out there lol, but that doesn't mean that you'll encounter them. I'm not sure about the black widow, but i know brown recluse tend to live in areas where human traffic is minimal. You're much more likely to encounter one digging through boxes in your attic/basement than you normal activities around the house. But i think that's common of most any spider.

I think the best advice i can give you is to try and not worry about them. Take precautions and spray, but other than that there really isn't a whole lot you can do.

I'm not too terribly frightened of other spiders because they can't harm me.
My friends says he has black widows on his fence in the back yard. I am quite terrified of brown recluse and black widows.
We had like two black widows at my old house and one of my friends killed both of them.
I never go in the attic and I have no basement lol.
I'm actually kind of scared of a poisonous spider in my bed or something.
My covers don't touch the floor and I check my bed every night but I still worry lol.
Yes I realize that I am probably over-dramatizing
