Do you talk to strangers? - August 18th 2011, 03:45 AM

Before you attack and say talking to strangers is weird or not normal I know my parents used to tell me not to talk to strangers but you have no idea how interesting it is to talk to a complete stranger plus what are the odds that you see them again. =)
About a week my friend and me went to a Mexican version of Subway and I was in line and there was a lady in front of us with a little girl about 6 years old so I started of the conversation telling her that her daughter was pretty and we started from there she invited us to sit in her table and we talked about the education system and other things. We talked about 3 hours and left, it was a good conversation she was a really smart person but the odds of me seeing her again are very small and I learned new information plus it kind of boosts your ego.
I just like to talk to strangers rather I'm waiting in line or just walking in the street. Another question what would you think if I random stranger started talking to you? How would you react?

It would depend on the situation and whether the person creeped me out or not. Either way I'd wonder why the person is talking to me and I might be a little freaked out. I would respond to them so they didn't think I was weird though.

Re: Do you talk to strangers? - August 18th 2011, 04:05 AM

The only time I don't talk to strangers is if I'm in a hurry, the person is holding a real loaded gun/knife pointing it at someone, or doesn't want to talk. In other words, I generally talk to strangers because you can learn pretty interesting stuff and it's a way to improve your interaction skills. I talk to strangers of any age, race, gender, etc... . For example, when I go to campus and use the bus, there's this old lady who is also on the bus and gets off one stop before I do. I talked to her once and she's pretty friendly, so unless I'm talking to a friend or another stranger, I talk to her.

It is interesting to talk to someone of your age range who is of a completely different genre or social group. I'm the farthest thing from "gangsta", but I've gone many times and talked with guys a bit older than I am who dress in the "gangsta" style. I understand they're usually not used to it and it's unusual for them sometimes but I figure why the hell not? They're humans and speak English (or some form of it at least). I'm not afraid of talking to strangers simply because I know enough martial arts and do carry things with me that are legal weapons, so if I'm attacked for whatever reason, I'm not worried about losing, even if I do, the other person is going to have a hard time walking away.

I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.

Occasionally yes. I was at a small amusement park and a younger girl (a few years my junior) basically came up to me and was all, "Hi, want to ride rides with me?" and so we did, we basically spent the whole day together. I will speak to strangers if they speak to me, and vice versa. Usually I speak to those in my age range or younger however.

It makes me too nervous to talk to strangers face to face. However, I talk to many people online here on TeenHelp. Only because I feel comfortable here

I do at work... I work in a cafe/restaurant in a large department store and lots of people tend to have conversations with me if I make them a drink or serve them at the till and things like that.

I find it very difficult to talk to strangers in real life. If someone starts a conversation with my I normally just give them a strained smile or a quick nod and then rush off. It really scares me.

I wish I could talk to them properly though.

Online it's easier.

Do you wanna come with me? 'Cause if you do, then I should warn you - you're gonna see all sorts of things. Ghosts from the past. Aliens from the future. The day the Earth died in a ball of flame. Online, yes.

In person, no. I usually basically have no reason to talk to them, so I never feel the urge to. When strangers start talking to me, I have a mini internal panic attack basically. I feel awkward talking to anyone new. I think it's mostly because the fact that the stranger has caught me off guard. I never predicted that they would start a conversation with me, so I'm not prepared to talk? If that makes any sense.
I do smile at strangers though. (:

I love talking to strangers and am happy to unless I'm in a hurry or they say something that makes me feel uncomfortable. Talking to strangers means you can learn new things and potentially make new friends. It can be fun and interesting.

I'm originally from Yorkshire which is known for being a friendly place where people will just talk to anyone. i grew up in a place where you would be standing at a bus stop and by the bus came you'd have had a good olde' conversation with the person in front of you. I talk to strangers but when I feel it's 'ok' to do so. I'm probably more comfortable starting up a conversation with a random stranger in person than I am online! I've sat for a good few hours talking to one man before and it turned out he had missed an appointment with my friend that morning! Small world!

I genrally make jokes about the situation for the stranger next to me to hear, especailly if I am alone. We may have a small conversation off of that. I guess this is okay.

I love talking to strangers. It honestly makes the time go by a lot quicker, also you might learn new stuff, or how other people think.

But what I have noticed is at least in the states people are to afraid if everyone. I don't see the reason why though. Its not like everyone in the world is going to attack you if you talk to them.

I'm usually in a rush wherever I'm going, whatever I'm doing, so I don't usually talk to anyone, let alone strangers.

Having said that, if someone starts a conversation with me, I will engage with them.

I used to hate it but I'm getting better...It largely depends on who it is though.

When it snowed a few years ago, I had to walk to work one day and this stranger kinda started chatting me up and insisting I come to his house for dinner, and insisting I gave him my mobile number. I gave him a fake number and legged it to work. That freaked me out.

Then at the busstop one morning, a man took ill. There was only me and another guy there, so we had to chip in and call the emergency services and just communicate with eachother, then another girl came along and helped us out. Now when we see eachother we always say hi and chat.

People around here are generally quite nice, so I have no problem talking to strangers. It's rare to get someone who's hostile or simply doesn't want to communicate at all.

I talk to strangers all the time as long as they don't actually seem to "strange". LOL like "hey kid want some poisoned candy?" "SURE" yeea not. But the way I see it if you never talk to any strangers at all how will you ever makes friends. So I see nothing wrong with it.

I wouldn't startoff the conversation because i'm just too shy. If a person talks to me it depends on how they do it. If they spoke to me in a line for something then sure, but if they approach me in the street just to start a conversations I'd be a bit worried, as it's happened before

I say hello & how are you to be polite, and if a conversation starts from there I don't mind. It can be fun to talk to strangers. If random strangers talk to me I don't mind much.

One thing I noticed - Texans love to talk to strangers. From my experience it was always in a friendly way. I love it! People around here would definetly look at you funny if you randomly talked to them, but it was totally normal for those Texans. (:

I think it depends on the stranger, a lot of old people and young kids tend to start talking to me and i'll quite happily join in (I think it would be rude not to really) But i know it someone seemed scary and i felt like it was dangerous i wouldn't talk to the stranger.
I don't think theres a lot wrong with talking to strangers aslong as your sensible, afterall most people we are friends with now were once strangers

I talk to strangers when i'm working. If i'm out by myself I never really start up a conversation with a stranger. I just never feel the need to, I guess? However, if the other person starts a conversation I will talk with them. :]
