What is the difference between hoodies and jacket? I say hoodies are like sweatshirts with hoods and possibly pockets. A jacket has zippers. My friends say that if it has a hood, doesnt matter if has a zipper or not, its a hoodie. My band teacher agrees with me and my friend's sister agrees with me, but I still want to hear what others think.

If it has a hood its a hoody even if theres no zip. Jackets are hoodies without the hoods..

I would wear a jacket in the winter, potentially on top of a hoody. Hoodies are typically more light, loose, and not so much for warmth/protection from rain as jackets are.

I think jacket is basically an all-encompassing term, and a hoodie is a specific type of jacket (made of sweatshirt material with a hood).

I think hoodies are made of sweatshirt material i.e. soft, and obviously have a hood.
Jackets can have a hood but are generally more thick, larger, have more mass, and are of different material. Jackets are... You know, jackets  .

To me, hoodies are pullover sweatshirts with a hood & a jacket is heavier with a zipper and pockets in the front.

A hoodie is a sweatshirt with a pocket on the front (no zipper) and has a hood. Jackets can be made from the same material or a different material and has a zipper, some jackets have hoods some don't.

To me:
A jacket has a zipper but otherwise is a nondescript definition. A hoodie is any kind of covering with a hood and is usually flimsy in terms of warmness.  |

I'd say hoodies are sweatshirts with a hood. Jackets are more something you'd wear in the winter with a hoody, regardless of whether they have a hood or not.

I call a real hoodie a sweatshirt you have to pull over your head, with the big pocket in front and a hood. I call a jacket anything that's semi light with a zipper and two pockets in the side. I call a coat anything heavier than that.

A hoodie is a sweatshirt/jumper that you have to pull over you head, it has a hood.
A jacket has a zip and can come with hood or no hood. Well, in my opinion anyway! |

A hoody can either be a small light weight jacket. Or a sweatshirt with a hood and pockets.

If it has a hood, then it's fine to call it a 'hoodie'. It might also be called a jacket or jumper, but if it has a hood, it is definitely a 'hoodie' as well. When stores have 'no hoodies' signs, they clearly mean you can't wear something with a hood, not you can't wear a specific type of jacket.

I agree with as long as it has a hood than it is a hoodie. A jacket is kind of an undefined term but I think it's more commonly used for zip-ups while the term sweatshirt is used for pull-overs.

A hoodie (as in clothing) is like a cotton/jumper jacket... with a hood. A jacket is a hoodless coat- or hoodless cotten zipper thing. A coat is a rainproof or thivk and warm thing, usually with a hood  Jem xx |

I'd say a hoodie is a jumper like thing with a hood whereas a jacket is a waterproof thing with or without a hood. That's the defenition my school use when it comes to things like what is acceptable to wear and stuff.

To me, a jacket is something with a zipper. If it has a hood too, it's a jacket. Unless it's baggy. Then it's a hoodie. If it has no zipper and no hood, it's a jumper. No zipper and a hood is a hoodie

To me jackets are just bigger and warmer than hoodies but other than that there's no difference really Hey, guess why i smile a lot... because it's worth it

It would make the most sense for a hoody to be the sweatshirt/jacket with hood.
A jacket I think is more for winter, to better keep you warm. Hoodies is for when it's a little chilly.  I was looking for a breath of life For a little touch of heavenly light But all the choirs in my head say, no oh oh |
