Is there anything I can do? -
December 9th 2011, 06:50 PM
I didn't know where to put this. I'm in turmoil. I can't cope. Sorry it's so long.
Edit: (read this after the rest of it, stupid iPod.) it's worth mentioning that I feel rather very responsible for him being fired. I had an outburst of shouting at a rehearsal a couple of weeks ago, and some other members of staff interpreted that as him not being able to control his orchestra. I've apologised to those involved, but if mr t gets sacked now, I dont think Ill ever forgive myself. I spent about half an hour crying over this before. I can't cope. This guy who runs my orchestra is called Mr T. He's a brilliant man, and I can honestly say I love him, but in a fatherly way. We just get on so so well. I adore him. He is my role model, and inspiration, and I know he has inspired so many other people too. I've spent the last two weeks with him because I have been doing a work experience placement with him. Basically, that involved shadowing him for two weeks and teaching alongside him (he teaches stringed instruments in different schools.) Obviously, we've spent a lot of time together (travelling and teaching) and we're much closer now. He's done so much for me. Just organising the work experience was an awful lot of work on his behalf, but besides that, he's bought me coffee and chocolate and lunch. At the end of the placement, he got me two music books and a subscription to a strings magazine, and a couple of other little things. Anyway, recently, some of his colleagues have been horrible towards him. They've been really rude and unprofessional in front of the younger orchestras, and one man sent an email to their boss, complaining about Mr T's behaviour, even though I'm sure he's not done anything. He's a brilliant teacher and mentor, and whilst he may be a little rude towards his colleagues, it's nothing totally obscene, unlike the abuse he gets. Mr T told me that on Tuesday morning, he had his resignation letter in his pocket, ready to hand in. The only thing that stopped him is that he didn't feel it was quite time. The thing is, he's not yet recieved his working contract for 2012, whereas other colleagues have. It doesn't like he's going to get his. I told him that we (the students) would miss him terribly, and he said he'd miss us too but he wouldn't be too upset. He and a lot of his colleagues don't get on, and he doesn't want to continue working with them. So yeah, he'd miss working with us, but he said not to lose sleep over it. The thing is, I wouldn't cope. I don't know how I could cope without seeing him twice a week. The 6 weeks over summer was bad enough. And I don't know why I'm posting this. Is there ANYTHING I can do? I joked with him about writing a letter or a petition to get him to keep his job, but he said not to. It's just... I would not still be playing my violin if I hadn't had him around for the past 5 years. I don't know what I can do. I love him. He cares about me. He has (unknowingly) saved me from killing myself. I seriously don't know how I could live without him. LiveHelpOperator|TalentCommittee RIP Grandad xxx |

Hey Kate,
I'm sorry this has happened, but I don't see how there is really anything you can do, particularly since he doesn't seem to want you to do anything. I'm sorry that you feel like it's your fault but I'm sure it isn't, seeing as he was having some issues to do with his colleagues that were nothing to do with you. Please try not to blame yourself, these things happen sometimes. Take care, and I'm sorry that I don't have anything more to say.
