Smile My Recovery From Prescription Drugs - January 13th 2009, 08:44 AM

Hello everyone my name is Dustin. I am 21 years old at the time. I have been addicted to prescription painkillers (oxycontin, loratab, loracet, percocet, percodan, methadone) for around 5 years. I have know that I have had a problem for around two years. First it started off as I would go to the doctor as I have been in two severe car accidents and have slipped disks in my back. Anyway I would go to the doctor and they would write me prescriptions for pain, it got to where I would start off very well taking what dosage I was supposed to take but then I would start taking more and more.

This went on for around a year and then I found out what methadone was. For those that don't know it is used to treat chronic pain in a lot of cases as well as some people use it to get off of other drugs. I was using the methadone for pain. I got to where I had to have 60 - 100 mg of the drug a day to function. I was hitting rock bottom.

Around 3 months ago my father and my current boyfriend found me passed out in my car in town. I had overdosed on methadone and xanax. It doesn't take that much of either one of those to OD. I was put immediately into a dry out facility. I relapsed a few times after leaving dry out but now I am taking Suboxone and I feel better than I ever have. I do not want any drugs and I feel like I have my life back.

I am posting this to maybe help some people. If I can quit and actually live sober when I thought this was never possible than anyone can do it.!
