Everything will be alright. - December 9th 2016, 09:54 PM

That is sincerely the most compelling piece of bullshit that I have ever heard. People have said that the only thing that makes life unfair is the illusion that it should be fair. Why the living fuck should it not be fair?

I am currently going mad. I have failed two units at University, and if I fail Law of Business Organisations, I will be excluded for twelve months, and forced to re-apply competitively, and start the entire degree again. I have failed Law of Business Organisations, by six marks, but my conjecture with the mark is that there were three quizzes during the semester which needed to be completed, in order to pass the unit, and the top two scores will be chosen for your final portfolio.

They have a mandatory requirement, which meant that you have to complete 2/3 of the quizzes to pass the unit. This was a massively important component, and failure to complete the component would mean, not only a loss of 10% of your grade, but a compulsory failure. And how much time did they give students to complete the enormously pressurised task?

Fourteen hours.

The time frame was between Friday 8PM, to Saturday 10AM. Blink and you will miss it. That was the time frame for the first two quizzes. For the third quiz, they pushed it WAY out to Friday 6PM to Saturday 6PM. To put it into perspective, every single one of my other three subjects give students an entire week to complete the quiz. I was working between Friday 8PM and Saturday 12:30AM (sometimes I stay back until up to 2AM), and so my capacity to complete those quizzes was non-existent.

I have a meeting with the Unit Coordinator to voice my concerns, on Monday, I am hoping the Dean of School will be there too, but I am just terrified as to how much this has riding on it. He already knows that failure of the unit will mean a long suspension, he knows that I was frustrated by getting only 5.5/10 for participation, even though I was at the forefront of classes, and attended 8/11, but it is extremely, unwieldingly easy for him simply to say that none of it matters, and that rules are rules.

I deserve this. I have known more than the majority of students in course, considering that when some students are given a question about the concept of Ultra Vires actions, they simple write 'Ultra Vires', with nothing next to it. I am sick of failing, not because of what I have learnt, and what I am capable of, but because of these stupid mandatory requirements, or because the marker cannot read my handwriting.

I would like to think that there could only be one decision that is to be made, one outcome of this appeal. In a fair world, I would win this argument comfortably. That said, even though the Dean seems like a lovely person, maybe all that means is that he is going to be nice and polite, and wish you the best in his rejection letter.

Why the fuck shouldn't life be fair?

Hi there,

I'm sorry you have yet to receive a reply.

For failing Business Organizations by six marks, are you able to see if your teacher/professor will let you do a bonus assignment to boost your mark so that you can pass it? I know here in Canada some teachers are flexible and sometimes lets you do that.

I also see that you have a meeting with your Unit Coordinator and hopefully the Dean on Monday (which is today). I also see that you live in Sydney, so I'm assuming you're talking about Australia, which means Monday is over there.

How'd your meeting go? Are you able to give me an update so I can help better with your updated situation?

Let me know
Brittany
