Being perfect. - October 19th 2020, 10:01 PM

I'm tired of being perfect all the time. At home, school and dancing. I've been like this for a while and can't stop. My outfit, hair, whatever I'm doing I always have to look perfect because I get this feeling that if I'm not, something horrible will happen. Maybe something is wrong with me.

It's alright to not be flawless now and then. Especially during your days off. We all need to relax and calm down a little. There's nothing wrong with being a tad sloppy or a bit lazy now and then. It's human thing :P

Taking good care of yourself, and putting a lot of effort into all you do is a very commendable thing, but don't overwork yourself. Take it easy now and then, it's important to let the steam blow off. Stress and anxiety can be very damaging.

The risk I took was calculated, but boy, am I bad at math.

You don't need to be perfect- no-one does. In fact, perfect is impossible because chances are we will always find something 'wrong' with us. And as you've noticed, trying to be perfect is stressful.

I think, when things feel stressful, we might try to work really hard to be perfect so that bad things don't happen. But sometimes we can't prevent bad things from happening- they just do. And when we try to hard to be perfect, and bad things still happen, we can feel a lot worse.

But as Clarent said above- it's good to take care of yourself. Try and be gentle with yourself. It's good that you work hard but there's no need to overwork yourself. Remind yourself that you are good enough, just as you are

Perfection isn't always a bad thing Emma. With the attitude you have, it sounds like you take pride in the things you do, and have high standards for yourself. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Just remember that nobody is going to be completely perfect, and unfortunately that includes you. Nothing bad is going to happen if you don't get something completely perfect. It takes time to accept imperfection.

Hi Emma,

I agree with not having to be perfect all the time because, unfortunately, no-one is. Just be yourself and people will like you more for it.

Hey Emma, I just wanted to jump in and let you know it's absolutely fine to not be 100% perfect. We're humans and, naturally, we're all flawed. You just keep being you and don't worry about what other people might think or say; those things they speak behind your back says some things about them... not you.
