I freaking hate counseling. I don't want help from a stranger. I just want to continue my life like before, it's miserable, but it's even more miserable and stressful to have to go to a counselor. fml.

Have you tried talking to your mum about that? Nobody can make you go to counseling, if you just talk to the counselor about this I'm sure they will let you quit, especially if it is making you uncomfortable. Therapy isn't for everyone.

If therapy wasn't at least a little bit uncomfortable, then you wouldn't need it because it would mean that you could deal with whatever it was for on your own. That being said, you shouldn't be so unconfortable that you don't make progress. Let your counselor know how uncomfortable you are, you might just need a different person, it can take awhile to find someone you can work with.

Haylee, it might be best for you to stay focused on that part there about your recognition about how miserable your life is, rather than the discomfort of getting comfortable with the process of therapy. You don't need to like the treatment (or the person!) , you just have to want to be rid of the misery.

Having sat with kids now for thirty years or so, I can tell you with great certainty as the 'stranger' that the awkwardness doesn't last very long. Just about everyone feels comfortable pretty quickly, and actually, they tend to not only really like their therapist, but the process itself. What therapy (and the therapist) are actually like once you get into it is really a lot different than most people's preconceived ideas, you just have to give it a little time, have a little hope, and stay focused on the goal, which is feeling better.
