Naturally thin people EXIST rant, your opinion? - October 27th 2011, 12:43 PM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of eating disorders, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread might therefore not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

I am self confident, I dont care about what people think, Here's what bother's me though, constantly being told that I'm thin. I find it so stupid for people to assume a thin person is unhealthy, but I dont care to explain to everyone. I tell some people, some comments I laugh off. But enough is enough, hearing it over and over. When I see a thin person or a fat person, the first thing that comes to my mind isnt 'omg so thin/fat' and more importantly I dont say it to them even if I'm thinking it. Unless ofcourse I'm friends with the person but there's a way of asking like 'are you alright'. Are people stupid or what. Yes, I'm [Edited by Boxxy] pounds, I'm 5'2 and 20 years old. Shocked? I've been thin all my life, or you may call it 'skinny' I'm naturally that way. I have a sort of round face, like its not thin and I have a small bone structure, so to me I look fine and not bony. I look in the mirror and I like the way I look. I look at other people and I'm fine with the way they look, I look at a person terribly sick and I dont say 'OMG'. I've joined a new university and I wana have fun and this is annoying me to bits. Its possible for people to be naturally thin inspite of eating. At a point I used to eat a lot and still no gain weight. I eat healthy now, along with some unhealthy fattening stuff but mostly healthy because health is more important than anything. To look 'sexy' I wont gain unhealthy fat and not gain it even, eitherway I wouldnt. Concerning what I eat, I think I'm the healthiest in terms of the food I eat amongst my friends. Why is this SO FREAKIN hard to accept, I just wana be a bitch to them now. If someone asks me 'Am I too fat' I say you look alright, and honestly to me they do. And who cares what anyone thinks. Sometimes thin people whom I think I look bigger than comment. WTF. Nobody ever says to fat people 'you are so fat are you sick?' I got a patriotic band that comes in one size and I wear it, I have a small wrist. This guy jokes about it, I'm cool with it but if you dont get that I am healthy when I say it then its just stupid. I take care of myself, more than those smokers. I was at a guys house with a few friends, I didnt know that guy so well and we went after college for some work. And I hadnt had lunch and told my friends who had it, I look thin so they assumed I'm likely to faint any minute. I'm healthy, I dont feel fainty, I'm as likely to faint as a fat person if I were to. So this friend tells me how she told her mom, 'i have a friend, shes even thinner than somerandomgirl and she didnt have lunch that day' stupid as this is even stupider of her to tell me I dont get the point. And I dont skip my meals, it was a one time thing, I didnt knw that guy so I didnt want to make it apparent to him. I just had to rant. Anyone relate to this or actually get that a thin person can be naturally thin. Jeez!

Hey strawberrymuffin naturally skinny people do exist. My sister is naturally skinny. No matter what or how much she eats she won't gain weight. Not a single pound. People who pick on you are probobly just wanting to be skinny themselves so they pick on you to make themselves feel better. Or they want you to eat more you so you would be like them which is never going to happen because that's just the way you are. I'm proud of you! Keep loving yourself just the way you are! You're perfect and beautiful?

Godddd, I know how you feel, I've been putting up with it all my life too!! Luckily anyone who hangs out with me long enough will eventually see me stuff my face with food but when I was younger a girl in my class spread a rumour that I was anorexic, which hurt.

I also hate that girls think it's ok to be a bitch to you, or assume you're a cow, just because you're skinny. It's really not the only thing in the world. Also because the world has been so caught up in how curvy girls are hot too, they seem to forget that not everyone is killing themselves to be slim, and that some people naturally are. There's groups on facebook like 'Curvy girls are better.....no one wants a bag of bones' which people forgt is offensive to people that don't actually put on weight that easily.

Sorry if I slightly hijacked this, but i really sympathise cos I get the same thing too!!!

I can't really contribute much help to this but I definitely know what you mean. I'm naturally pretty tiny and I'm constantly being told to go eat something or being asked if I'm anorexic etc. It drives me absolutely crazy to listen to. Even my family doctor who has been my doctor for years still asks me if I have an eating disorder...its like um..you've been my doctor for how long? you should know that yes I have always been tiny and no for the zillionth freaking time I do not have an eating disorder thanks. :| (not that i would honestly tell him if I did because hes kind of an asshole but thats another story)

Another thing that bothers me about it is that my friends who were bigger (and a lot of others for that matter) seem to think that because I'm skinny and small I can't dislike anything about my body or the way I look.

okay okay I'll stop ranting now I promise. Just know your not alone. As long as you like the person you are thats honestly all that matters. Hang in there and never forget that you are beautiful.

I know what you mean. I'm of average weight right now and can pretty much eat what I want without gaining any weight. When I was younger I was super skinny no matter how much I ate, and it took me a long while to get me to a healthy-looking weight, but I was not sick, and I am not now. A few weeks back though, my friend who is super skinny told me I look as skinny as her. I don't see that, but I guess it could be true. People can be thin, average, overweight, or somewhere in between all of those and still be healthy without any type of physical or mental disorder. Everyone's body structure is just different.

If you're happy with the way you are and healthy then more power to you!!!
I feel like I have to starve to stay at a weight I am remotely happy with - but that is largely due to an ED. I'm sure most people mean it as a compliment - and those that imply you have something wrong with you are ignorant.
I feel like people commenting that you're 'too thin' can be JUST as offensive as commenting on excess weight - either way, unless you are a doctor, you have no right! Just because it is socially acceptable to comment on how thin someone is does not make it any less hurtful to some people. I have friends who are fully grown adults who are naturally very thin and petite - some still haven't broke the triple digits, I remember a good friend that went through a phase where she absolutely hated her body and was often chastised and made fun of for being anorexic - she went through as much anguish as any other girl with body image problems - I do not see why there is any less merit to that.

When people say I am too thin it's because I look sick, and I know that. Starvation looks a lot different than someone who is healthy but naturally thin - even underweight. Very, very different.
