Why can't I compliment myself?
Or even take a compliment?
Why can't I stay happy?
What the hell is wrong with me?

If Tanner compliments me or says I'm the best..
I can't believe him.
Have I been hurt that much?
I trust him,
With everything I have.
BUT WHY CAN'T I TAKE A COMPLIMENT?

He's stressed,
and I wanna help.
I try to help.
He says I am helping
everyday.
When I say good morning baby
and I love you.
He says it puts a smile on his face.

Then why don't I feel like I'm helping?

I don't know if this is a poem or not but it should be it's really well said Sometimes we just need to accept ourselves the way we are. Iv noticed in myself that if I don't accept myself then I can't believe or accept compliments from others. Try step by step to accept who you are hugs

I've felt I can't take insincere compliments. Do you feel that they are insincere (or that they can't be true)? If you don't believe that they can be true yourself, that people can really view you as beautiful or smart or whatever else they compliment you, then they won't feel sincere to you, that the people truly mean what they are saying and that what they are saying is true. You have to believe it yourself before you can allow others to believe it. That's what's wrong with you, you can't take a compliment. That's all. It's nothing you should feel ashamed of. Talk about how you don't feel like you are helping with Tanner, let him know about your misgivings. Making other people aware of your problem is a good step toward fixing it.
