Bad exam /rage -
November 20th 2011, 10:36 AM
So the other day I had my yr 12 legal studies exam. The exam was set out this way: Two 10 minute short answers. 2 50 minute essays. 1 hour essay.
There were 5 sections. One we HAD to write on and four that we could choose to do a short answer or essay on (as long as there were two of each and nothing was from the same section). I had planned to do a section on government for one of my essays which I was TOLD all year would be something like "How has Commonwealth law making power expanded since federation" or "What are the ways in which the constitution can be altered to allow for expansion of Commonwealth law". Basically a question about Comm law vs state law and how it's changed since 1901. Then I got there are the closest thing was "What are the strengths and weaknesses of the federal system?" UGH. I couldn't wing it with another question because the only things I could have remotely attempted to bluff through were questions about juries and alternative dispute resolution methods and I already was doing an essay for than section: strengths and weaknesses of the adversary system. I'm so pissed about this. I basically just had to do it without really knowing anything about the federal system in general other than the division of powers. I pretty much had to turn it into the question I was prepared for by saying some crap like "The main weaknesses of the federal system come from the conflict between state and Comm power". It's so obvious it was an answer which had been planned for a different question. It's so frustrating because I know I won't get an A on it. I'd be lucky if I got a B. I've gotten all A's on my internal results so it's kind of like all that hard work this year in that class was for nothing because it doesn't work on percentages... you get a C in exams and your mark comes down to a C level. To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never, to forget

That's quite annoying then. Did you not know anything about it because you were planning for the question you were expecting or cause you weren't taught much on it? Either way, it's still unfair on you to be told that it'll be a question about x and it turns out to be a question about something completely different but at least you did the best you could and hopefully they'll see that and you'll get the mark you want.
